I would be very grateful for some help in identifying this plant. After becoming interested in gardening, I have been unable to identify a shrub which grows in front of my porch. Nobody else knows what it is either. The shrub is about 15 years old, about 7 feet high, four feet wide and two feet deep. It has multiple small branches coming from a narrow main trunk about a feet high. I have been keeping the growth off the lower parts of the branches for aesthetics. The foliage is variegated with lovely yellow edge and blotches of green. The leaves are ever so slightly cupped. An image of this shrub is here, but this particular one is not mine. http://www.freeimageslive.co.uk/free_st ... ves1742jpg Many thanks to the identifier! I will take a photo when I can.
It does look like Euonymus, but since I've never grown that I thought they were creepers not shrubs. I learn something every day.
I think Eileen got it named for you, Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gold' There is a creeping, ground cover variety Euonymus fortunei 'Coloratus'
Thanks Eileen! And thanks everyone for your responses I am looking at different pictures of Euonymous, looks like a very diverse bunch. The variety I have growing is out of control. There must be magic in the ground because it has some very impressive growth even in the winter, which I must constantly cut back or else it will obstruct the walkway. Haha. Well thanks again You guys are so helpful!
Yes. This is the one. It's nice, keeps the house private while the door is open letting fresh air in.
I did more research on Euonymus and found that this is specifically Euonymus japonicus. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euonymus_japonicus http://www.backyardgardener.com/plantname/pd_8980.html Thanks for all your help. I would not have found this with out you.
