Hello all, Here is a Pieridae I photographied last May (2009) in Texas (Frisco, near Dallas). Any idea about its id???? Thank you, Michel Pilon Quebec, Canada
Cloudless Sulphur Phoebis sennae They are pretty much all over the southern half of the U.S. and into Mexico. I'm not too far from Frisco, do you have family down here?
Hello Toni, Thank your for your identification. A male I guess (because the coloration)? No, I was there for business. During my spare time, I got the time to take some pictures of your wonderful Scissor-tailed Flycatcher!!! What an impressing bird! You can see some pictures I took here: http://parcours.pilonm.org/cgi-bin/affi ... e%211%2142 Cheers! Michel
I love watching the Scissor-tail swoop around catching flies. We don't see them in the city very often tho. If you are in that area again in spring or summer, try to make a trip to the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary The Nature trails and native gardens are really pretty
The Sulphur Butterfly and the Sissor-Tail were my moms favorite.I don't see many of the great sissor-tails around anymore .There use to be lots and lots of them.
Thank you Toni for the link. I never know: it may be possible I return at Frisco eventually... Thanks glendann for your comment. Cheers, Michel
I've never seen Scissor-tails before. Aren't they lovely? We get Sulphar butterflies here in Scotland though but I don't know if they are the same species as your one.
Hello Eileen and Sherry8 for your comments... Eileen, the Cloudless sulphur (Phoebis sennae) is a small to midsized butterfly in the family Pieridae found only in the New World. Cheers! Michel Quebec, Canada
