Hi Scorpians, welcome to the Stew from north Texas.
Not being a tropical plant enthusiast I have no way of ID'ing your palm without a picture. There are a couple of members who might be able to tho.

But in the meantime can you post a picture of your palm? Like the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words"

    [IMG] Hello Scorpians ~

I agree with Toni, a photo would be most helpful,
but reading your words, "... sort of like a fish tail"
[IMG] the first thing I thought of was Caryota palm,
which is commonly called "Fishtail Palm" and sometimes sold as a tropical houseplant.

If the growing circumstances are less than ideal,
they sometimes are not as full and leafy as they could be. [IMG]
I've seen them growing in shopping mall planters,
where the light levels are rather low,
and they sometimes only have a few leaves at the top of a very long reed-like stem.

In tropical climates they can grow to be massive Palm trees.
