**Very common tree with purple flowers what's it's name?

    I see these everywhere, and I really like them because they obviously need little care, they are fairly small, and they flower very nicely. Can someone tell me the common name for them. If you happen to know the latin name that would be great too.

    That's the Eastern Redbud(Cercis canadensis)

    Our's died last year, but it was old when we bought this house 21 years ago.

    That is one of my favorite trees LillyPlanter.I found one behind our mail boxes last year and waited to dig it up until about 2 weeks ago.It now is in my yrd.

    In the south here we call them Judas trees, but there are many species of them throughout the world, and the ones in Europe are so very different. . . they are much larger, and the flowers grow directly on the limbs. (Legend has it that Judas Iscariot hanged himself on the Mediterranium type. . . thus the common name.) They bloom in early spring, and grow wild along the edge of the woods here like dogwoods do. Lovely pics.
