My daughter bought a hanging strawberry plant a couple weeks ago, and it's been doing well. But today, when I was watering it, I noticed a leaf that was completely unlike the rest of the strawberry leaves. Upon closer inspection, it was an entire plant growing in the pot with the strawberries.

I know next to nothing about growing strawberries...well, really, any fruit. And my daughter knows even less, as she will be the first to admit! ;) It looks like a weed and I figure I should just pull it out. But I'm not certain, so I wanted to run it by my gardening "brain" (all you stewies) so you can tell me what to do!

I think if it doesn't taste like a strawberry, its next home should be the compost pile. It takes nutrients away from the strawberries.

Thanks guys! Paige says thank you very much also. That hitchhiker has been duly dumped without damage to the strawberry plant, and we're looking forward to some yummy fruit later in the season!

I agree with everyone...a weed. I am hoping our stores have some nice looking strawberry plants, ever-bearing. I did have to be careful of all of the hornets in the late summer before I popped one in my mouth...they seem to love the sweetness as much as I do. I didn't want to put one of them in my mouth and be stung!
