I see on other garden forums claiming this to be carrot planting week. Well for us its carrot harvest week we plant our carrots inthe winter they cant take our spring and summer heat. We usually plant a 2x6 section of our raised garden box and this year it yielded a pretty good crop here is the story. http://cappyandpegody.blogspot.com/2017/04/its-wonder-we-carrot-all.html
We don't eat carrots very often, hubby likes them but the rest of us can do without them. Glad you had such a good crop. Yep, depending on where the majority of those forum members live I find that the further south you live the less relevant some of the information is. Sorta like gardening magazines, most cater to and are printed in northern climates and have very little to do with us in the south. One of the many reasons I love GardenStew information, so many different growing conditions you not only learn more about gardening in your own locale but also what other gardeners are going through.
Cappy, our carrots are still in the ground and growing. We'll harvest the first few in about two weeks. We love carrots, and eat a lot of them, so we have Danvers Half-Long and Rainbow carrots planted. It's kind of fun to put purple or white carrots on the plate (we are easily amused . . . .).
Cappy yours look good,..sadly i have no room for Veg in my garden,..however there was a time i grew lots of Veg for sale and enjoyed doing so,..i love carrots with white sauce or grated on top of a salad
A super easy southern tradition Carrot salad Carrots, miracle whip and rasens mix chill serve try it and thank me later
Okay, you got me hungry now. My Mom used to make that shredded carrot salad, sometimes she added a little bit of crushed pineapple too.
yea the addition of pineapple to the slaw was reserved for company or special company. I really like it the next day when every thing kinda marries.
We only had the pineapple addition after my Mom had made a fruit/jello salad for some church function or a wedding shower and she saved some of the pineapple to make the salad for us the next day. Otherwise it was just carrots and raisins.
We had carrot and raisin salad when I was in school.. I think I was the only kid that liked it. Still do but carrots do not do well here.
