August 8, 2016 191 (2).jpg I looked at a beautiful Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and noticed the rips in his wings. I wonder how it happened and what the small butterfly has been through...

Beautiful photos :) Am sure this butterfly has a good story to tell. I'm guessing the rip in the wing was from a great escape!

I'll bet if it could talk, that would be a good story...

Ahh, but they are so fragile. I see the ones around here with rips and notches and wonder how "old" they are or if something almost got ahold of it or did it get battered by the weather or is it just plain old age for a butterfly?...

Birds, kids or other sticky fingered humans trying to 'rescue' them or make framed specimens out of them. But usually, like Carolyn mentioned, old age causes the cracks and tears in the wings.

Sherry so beautiful. We have some here also. We have been seeing some Monarch's which really makes us happy. Also Morning Cloaks. I bet that butterfly could tell us a few tales.:stew1:

An absolutely gorgeous butterfly. We don't have them here but I've seen them in south-Europe.
