When I re-potted my house plants this spring I noticed a yellow mold growing on the soil surface after I would water. This has never happened to me before, so I am thinking the soil may have been contaminated. Any Ideas or suggestions. Thanx
Hi Lindsay, The mould growing on the surface of your soil is most likely saprohytic, this means that it is living and getting its energy from some sort of dead organic matter in your soil. This could be a bit of rotted wood for example. This type of fungus only lives on dead matter not on living organisms and will not harm the houseplants.
