Why does toilet paper need a commercial on TV? Who is not buying this product?

:headscratch:  Just think of the money they could save if they didn't advertise.

Ah, but if the TP companies didn't advertise, we wouldn't know which brand was the softest, didn't shred, and had cute little bears using it out in the woods.
Same thing with tissues--when you have a cold you don't really care what box they came in. All you need is plenty of them!
And Captain, I sincerely hope everyone is buying TP!

Actually there is a trend growing among the 'serious homesteading back to nature' crowd to use cloth for all those purposes instead of disposable paper products.
     :smt009

I used cloth diapers on my first baby and when I was young I had the job of ironing my Dad's cloth handkerchiefs ...way back in the day before disposable paper for either function...I am not going to give up paper products.

Jerry, when Sears & Roebuck stopped sending out those lovely catalogs, we started buying toilet paper.

Yes that is kind of strange. It's pretty much a given in most households. We saw or read an article that said that Toilet Paper manufactures are going to quite putting the little cardboard roll inside of the rolls of TP. They went on to say that it will save them quite a bit of money. I can't imagine what kind of shapes the rolls will take on with that little bit of inner support.

Darn! I use the cardboard rolls inside TP as cutworm guards for broccoli and pepper plants. One roll cut up makes three guards. They fall apart and rot into the soil when no longer needed. Guess I need to start saving the cardboard rolls inside paper towels. The downside is, we don't use that many paper towels!
I wish companies would stop messing with my garden . . . .

Ya those little cardboard rolls inside the toilet paper can be used for so many good uses like you said Marlin. They also can protect seedlings after one plants them outside from harsh weather until they get established. Our little dog loves them. She plays with it and then shreds it. Oh well.

Donna that is pretty funny. TP hummmmmm. Now what could that stand for.

I saw an ad on the TV about the first paper roll without the cardboard center. It said that you could build the Empire State building..Twice! with the amount of cardboard rolls discarded we use each year. They showed a picture of the center of the new roll and it looked like a fat X opening. I'm sure the suppliers, transporters or the stores would stack them or squeeze them tight enough that that fat X opening would disappear and then what do you do??? I think you should be able to drop the cardboard off at the store and let them recycle it. That's better than me trying to recycle used, (YUK!) cloth wipes!
