This is my desktop, notice anything strange??? No? OK, look again closely and count the number of mouse connected... I always had a major headache when it came to using a regular right handed mouse, or a left handed one... In the past, I often mirrored my mouse cursor , and then switched the mouse buttons from the Windows control panel, (thus turning it into a left handed mouse). But when someone else (who was usually right handed) had to use my PC, I had to undo all of this... Anyway, yesterday (as I was going to buy a replacement mouse) I got the idea of why not connect 2 mice at the some time - Keep one left handed, while the other one will be right handed. Sounds simple, but could it be done? So I searched with Google, and found this wonderful (as well as completely free) utility called EitherMouse. http://www.eithermouse.com/ Anyway, instead of buying 1 mouse, I bought 2 identical ones (USB of course), with 2 new mouse pads also. So the end result is what you see below! I am not exactly what people will call left handed, but at the same time I also don't fully conform with the conventional as well as traditional right handed school of thought - Because I am actually ambidextrous! So now I think I've finally gotten my wish!!! Seriously, try it, and you'll see your own productivity go up exponentially - I swear you'll now start to feel even more deeply connected/integrated with your computer! I mean, nature gave me 2 hands to work with, so why show unjust favoritism to either of the 2? Why not use both to work with the PC?
They really have software for everything nowadays I'm not ambidextrous but I do have a second mouse somewhere. Maybe I should try it out today for a bit of fun
There are still some bugs in the system, but yes, do please try it! Because once you get going with this, you'll never want to go back to the old way of doing things - The whole PC now feels a lot like a smartphone's touch screen, (without any actual touch option)! Trick of the mind I know, but it feels great! In fact, the more people try it out, the more feedback we will be able to give to the maker of this software, (to remove some glitches)...
I just tried it with my second mouse and I agree that this would be a great piece of software for left-handed people Intuitively I expected each mouse cursor to act independently of each other but I understand that this would have been a impossible task given the interface design of Windows.
This is fascinating. I am ambidextrous, left hand dominant, but can write and function with both with pretty much equal facility. I use a right hand mouse. I might just have to try this!! Thanks S-H!
To solve this issue, I (in my mind) have basically divided the screen in half. So if I have to use the mouse for something that is on the right side of the screen, I naturally use the right handed mouse. While for the left I use the left handed mouse. This keeps the conflict to a minimum, and actually makes me function a bit faster, as now I have 2 fully functioning mouse cursors on the screen, (so don't have to run the mouse from one end of the screen to another) - I just use them one at a time, in their own area of the screen, (to avoid conflict)... Wait, I just observed myself right now - For me the keyboard in the center is acting like a buffer. So when I use the left mouse, my right hand is automatically on the keyboard. And the other way around when I am using the right mouse (as in my mind I've already dived the screen in 2 areas). So this I think is what's assisting in the overall increase of productivity that I am experiencing, (also is keeping 2 mouse conflict to a minimum). However when drawing something, both can be used at once - Only 1 of the 2 will be used as the anchor, while the dominant mouse (whichever it may be) will do the rest. So this way everything starts to feel as if I am using the touch screen of a smartphone...
