Mike took the simple way out and pulled up in front of my favorite nursery, said "Happy early Birthday and Mothers Day", handed me a wad of money, and picked up a book to read. I ended up with all the annuals for my shade pots and several perennials too.

Now why can't Ian do something like that? Maybe if I drop enough hints before my birthday the penny will drop.
Now that you have all the plants you need for your shade pots you'll have to let us see them once they're potted up and in place. Have you lined up anywhere for your perennials? How exciting having them all to play with at one time!!
One question did Mike get any change or did you spend every last penny as I would have done?

Wow 2OF--what a birthday present! You must have been over the moon.
I see that you made the very most of your opportunity. You selected quite a varied group of plants there.

That's my kind of birthday!! What a sweetie! Is that creeping buttercup I see? If you need more just holler- I need to clean my shade bed because it is taking over...

Eileen, he didn't get any back...plus I had to add just a little extra for a couple of extra plants I had been looking for. :setc_029:
Stratsmom, It is Cinquefoil 'Nana" (Potentilla neumanniana) and can take full sun. I bought it for full sun containers as a trailing plant. I'm trying to get away from so many expensive annuals in my many pots. The potentilla, salvia, and some autumn joy sedum are hardy enough to over winter in the garage.

What a fun day. Those plants look super. I love to buy viola's as they will winter over and bloom next year. So do my Dianthus. They have been coming back and blooming for the last 4 years.

That man of yours is a keeper! What a wonderful surprise. I'd be over the moon. Mine bought me several bags of garden soil once, just what I needed.

This has been my B-day and Mothers Day gift for the last 15 years. He takes me to several garden centers, sits in the car reading while I shop and then carries everything out for me, and helps plant any trees or shrubs. And, yes, not to brag, he is a keeper. We'll be celebrating our 50th anniversary in 3 months!

What a good guy!!! 50 years coming up, we have 36 in two weeks. I keep hinting for gift cards to a couple of garden center for birthday, anniversary and christmas but for some reason those suggestions just don't stick.

We came to the agreement years ago not to buy a gift that wasn't requested. I bought him tools...wrong size or brand...but he wouldn't return them as 'that's not nice'. He bought me clothes that didn't fit or cookware I didn't need. Now, we go together and pick out what we want and wrap it so we know we'll un-wrap a gift we want. ;)

Toni I know exactly what you mean.
2ofus-that is a great idea. I'll have to try and use that one on my hubby.

Well, that qualifies for bragging rights in my book! Congratulations in advance. You're an inspiration.
