Carolyn, we grew celery when we lived up north. We found that putting boards on each side of the plants helped the celery "blanch" and stay tender. Picky plant, but if anyone will have success with it, you will!
We are growing cantaloupe. It is unintentional--I threw some cantaloupe seeds from a grocery melon on the compost pile and we now have a bumper crop of cantaloupe growing on the compost. I love surprise plants!

I'm trying several annuals this year that I've failed at before. I've never had luck with verbena or million bells. I picked up some really good looking red verbena at WalMart and planted it along with white bacopa , a red wave petunia and red & white geraniums. I put red & yellow million bells in a flat pot along with a red & yellow amaranth, we'll see how they work out! I also thought I'd try a sweet potato vine in a mixed pot this year. If they do anything I'll post pictures!

Theres something exciting for me to bring a new plant to life that u havnt before.

Carolyn cellery is one of the worst tasting tastes for me ever.....but I hope yours is delicious!

Marlingardener I have some pumpkins coming up where I let them rot down out front from Halloween. Not enough sun for any use though.....funny how things in nature take hold....
I got Jack be Little's germin though :)

Yeah, I am already worried it is going to be bitter.. as so far this week it is hot and dry and that is the prime recipe for bleech! bitter and nasty.

Where is that post, Carolyn? I have tried for the last three years and even though I have beautiful plants they do not make sprouts.

Mart, I honestly don't know... I posted that several years ago and I must not have been successful growing celery that year because I have never gotten any in the garden before. I tried brussel sprouts several years ago and that was a bit of a failure, too. I didn't get any to form, either. I think you need to pinch out the top at some point so they stop growing upwards and start forming the heads before Fall. Sorry, I can't be of much more help than this. I started Kalettes this year only to kill them off last week with the severe heat we had. I was bumming because it was for a winter market I was growing them. the seeds are expensive, too. I assume they are similar to brussel sprouts, but not certain 100%.
