Got lucky on this one for sure. Just happened to be looking out our front door, and see a bunch of white in the center of the yard. Looking closer I see this magnificent sleek Sharp-Shinned hawk having dinner. Tried to get a few photos thru the kitchen window, but the flash just created one big whiteout. So I slowly opened the front door, and slipped out as quietly as I could to the front deck. Took three quick photos figuring she would bolt, which didn't happen. She just stayed right there content on finishing her dinner. I watched for a few more seconds til a pang of guilt took over. Slipped back inside, popped a cold one, and watched til she took flight. Awesome experience!

You were so lucky that your hawk didn't take fright and fly off. I've tried a few times to catch one of ours on a feed but seldom have any luck.

As luck would have it she was facing away from me when I slipped out. Then I did the mannequin routine when she saw the first flash.

Great photo of a hard to photograph bird! Hawks are so regal.

Thanks marlingardener. They bluejays are squawking like crazy out there right now. Gotta be something close by. We have a fresh four inches of snow on the ground and the feeders are all the rage as I type.

Wow! Fantastic shots! As amazing as it is to watch the hawks, it is always kind of sad to know they ate one of my feathered friends from my feeder.
I saved a cornered Blue Jay one winter day from a hawk just outside my kitchen window.
