I am planning to plant a mix of fruit trees. Peach, satsuma, plum, pear and some grape vines--is there a term for that? I know grapes make a vineyard and apples make an orchard. What would you call a mix, or even just a mix of fruit trees without the grapes?
A piece of land planted with fruit trees is an orchard.....not just apples. So basically you would have an orchard and a vineyard. Good luck with your plantings and let us see photos as they get going.
A mix of fruit trees and grape vines is called "a little bit of heaven!" Make sure that you have trees and grapes that pollinate each other. Crabapple trees are a universal pollinator for apple trees, our Mars grapes are close to a wild Muscadine vine, and sets fruit. We have yet to see a pear, although we have diligently tended our four pear trees. If you have questions about varieties, care, pruning, contact Texas A&M. They have tons of information. https://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/archives/parsons/publications/fruitlist.html
We have peaches, apples nectarines, two types of pears, plums and indian peaches that never do anything but drop quarter size fruit everywhere. The old grapevine finally died ! If you want pears,, leave the tree alone. No matter what they say.
