Hello Netty, that's not them all...while replacing 7 bottle brushes I went mad with quite a few in the garden. The Astilbes were sold saying they were ok in the sun and no way they like shade, so I ended up doing this  but where the fencing is at the back that takes the shade early so one has been put either end.

You've not seen the front garden yet...we did have a lovely lawn totally flat to the slabs but my staffy when alive kept kicking it and in the end we decided on larger gravel..it was doubled lined and 3 tons went down and he still went down to the lining and kicked out, this year we've re-newed all the pea gravel around the plants because it was mixed with larger and it's cut some work out but the trouble we have is both front and back are total sun traps all day :)

Hi Carolyn, it's funny you saying that as I've just been out side to sweep the garden and they've now died the heads have and been cut back besides removing dead Snapdragon heads and roses.

Hubby removed a wide conifer from the front garden but the rooting wouldn't moved so he axed it and throwed pea gravel on it and it looks like the other rocks on the garden and we brought 4 pink pampas grasses from young and they have grown put to kick start them I put two of them in a pot each with multi purpose compost and they matured nicely before moving them in to the ground.

I know they don't flower till the 2nd year but I've had them before and one of those flowered the first year around...so fingers crossed I hope a couple do.

I brought Carex grasses early this year and they failed with the heat besides burning and it didn't matter how much I watered them :(

I am really starting to like grasses, and have tried to grow Japanese Forest grass twice. The first died almost immediately and the second was struggling. I moved to complete shade and now it's doing much better. But now I'm going to have to make a new shade garden around it LOL
