Today, added some Jobe's heirloom tomato fertilizer to my potted tomatoes and garlic. harvested some tomatoes, hardened off some seedlings.

This is one of the things I love about this website. I still get blown away by the climate differentials! IGrow, you are growing tomatoes & I am still in a deep freeze.

Oh, BTW, I just re-read my post about the bear. Fortunately for us, no more bear sightings. They must be hibernating now.

Cayuga,I'm joining you, veggies now? Our snow just melted today and if it turns cold again, we will skate everywhere. Nothing grows except icicles.

Catdaddy6676, we slowly add to our compost pile every night too! Can't say it is doing much composting though in this winter weather!

putzed a little bit in the high tunnel. it was beautifully warm today. not much as I had inlaw appointments and errands to run today, but I did get out to the houses to cut tomato strings from last year. this is horrible that I still have debris in there. slowly I will get it cleaned out. hopefully this year is less disastrous than last year.

Unloaded cattle manure (while standing upwind of it!), carried a couple of garden carts of compost to the raised beds, and blessed my super husband for bringing home a six-pack of broccoli.

Cut back three rose bushes that have been out front for years. One, the Blue Girl, died down to the graft a few years ago and came back as the Dr. Huey rose whose root stock was used for the graft. The other two were cheap and on sale, so it just goes to show you that you get what you pay for sometimes.
I am going to replace them with two Freedom Hedge roses, a yellow and an orange. I have had 3 Red Freedom Hedge bushes out back for 13 years and they are doing great.

CatDaddy, we bury peels and such all winter. We chop it into the soil and cover it deep. Makes for great composting.
Carolyn, some cleanup is very slow indeed, but getting started now will have everything ready.
Marlingardener, where I live, it's too wet and too cold for scattering manure.
Toni, I hope your rose bushes flourish. I love yellow roses best with pale pink taking second place.

I hit a big box hardware store today, buying a 16 foot by 1 foot by 2 inch piece of lumber. I am now committed. It will be the start of a 4X4 square foot garden bed. I intend to staple hardware cloth on the bottom to foil those dratted voles!

One radish survived and today I saw it had bolted to seed. Some herbs and vegetables are signaling that the plant may die soon and is trying to reproduce.

Does anyone have knowledge that I should harvest this plant or can I wait? Never grown these before so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks in advance!

It was out to the lottie today to check for wind damage--we had Beaufort wind force 8-9 ! No damage thank goodness. It has happened that I had to shore-up tilting arches and such during the storms.
Further--I had two extra large bin liners full of leaves to turn into leaf mould...so I added them to the collection.
We are just waiting for some windless dryness to do some work that is waiting for us there.
I really need to take a peek at my bees too.
