Can anyone identify this plant or weed? Last year I started from seed what I thought was foxglove. I've been waiting for flowers to bloom so I inquired with my resident neighborhood plant expert. She told me this is not foxglove. The plants/weeds are over 6' tall and they are popping up all over my garden. I bought the seeds online so I could have been sent anything! Any help would be appreciated.
Yea, I have bought seeds online that turned out to be NOT what they said they were selling me...I only buy from established plant businesses now. Each state has a Ag extension office in conjunction with a local university with an Ag department. Do a goggle search for Ag extension office in your state, send the photo to them. These type of questions are answered by local Master Gardeners (part of the requirements when they get their certification) and should be able to ID it for you.
Looks like a weed to me. Sorry. If you want, I can mail you some seeds from my garden when they ripen. They are just ending their bloom period now.
Could be one of the Goldenrod species, but they are not weeds, the weed confused with Goldenrod is Ragweed.
no... that looks to be goldenrod. rag weed looks like a lacy leafed large leafed plant with no apparent flower. golden rod has a distinctive plume of golden flowers. I did not confuse ragweed with goldenrod. definitely know the difference between the two weeds.
Sorry you have had bad luck with Goldenrod, I have one in the front yard that the butterflies love so much most of the plant disappears in late summer when their caterpillars chow down on it.
I have had goldenrod piggy back into my yard with other plants I have moved here from the family farm in NY State. A weed but such a pretty weed. I let some grow for late summer blooms.
I am with you Cayu--I let a few grow in my flower garden as well. The pollinators seem to be crazy about it.
yes, this happened to me! i have no idea what one of the herbs in my garden actually is, and it doesn't seem to match any herb that i bought. see this thread: https://www.gardenstew.com/threads/help-id-this-herb.41240/
