I thought this was some type of Parsely. but it has a strong taste, and now its has small white flowers, did i wait to long to harvest it? is it even parsley or some other kind of herb? let me know what you think. Thanks!
Just what I thought, Odif. Adam, googling Coriander might be a good idea. It does look like my volunteer Coriander.
Whoops, I forgot to add that it is edible. The dried seeds are called ? by a different name, right, Eileen? Okay, just googled: I knew this, but some things get lost in the jumble which used to be my brain. Cilantro is a herb that offers many health benefits. It can be added to soups and salads to provide loads of nutrients. When you eat cilantro, you can eat the whole thing. There is no need to disregard the stem. The more you eat cilantro, the more health benefits you’ll gain. In order to gain any benefits from cilantro, you’ll need to eat it on a regular basis. Just eating it once in a while won’t do any good. The other good thing about cilantro is that it’s low in calories and will cut down on your sodium intake. The seeds of the cilantro are just as good, which are called coriander seeds.
ok, I am convinced this plant is Cilantro, and the flowers will soon turn into Coriander seeds. I thought Cilantro had bigger leaves so I didn't think it was that at first. thanks all.
I always have to grow multiple plantings of cilantro: the plants bolt in my garden very quickly. They have already bolted this summer, and I have started another round of seeds. Do you like cilantro Adam? It does have a very distinctive taste. People either like it or they don't. I personally like it chopped with parsley, chives, lemon, olive oil, garlic, salt & pepper. Great with sweet potatoes or fish or whatever!
Mine has also bolted, but large leaves are at the bottom and ferny foliage midway and the flowers which will make the Coriander seeds at the top. I ate several leaves while working in the garden.
a great substitute for cilantro in the heat of Summer is Lemon or Lime Basil. all parts of cilantro taste like cilantro so If you only have green seed pods to work with or even just the stems... use it any part of it for the flavor of it.
I'm not a big fan, it's a strong unique taste, I'm hoping the seeds taste better! ahhhh there is the cilantro leaves I was expecting, way at the bottom of the plant. lol ic. so the seeds won't taste any better? damn. I don't think I'll grow this again next year.
sort of... let me try some again... hmmm I might be growing accustom to it since I keep tasting it. soap? hmm maybe. it's not horrible, it's just quite strong and different, it tastes like perfume? it's too strong... I like parsley 100x more.
adam... it won't taste better to you no matter what. in place of it try the lemon or lime basil. there are people who have a gene that they carry that just cant stand the taste of cilantro. it tastes like dish soap to them.
