What is going into your fall garden?

On hot, humid days, a splash from the sprinkler or hose feels suddenly cooling.
I picked Kale this morning for my partner's daughter. Four rows of Kale and it keeps on growing. No Cabbage worms this year, although the Cabbage moths fly about a lot. I haven't sprayed the Kale once. Some type Wasp has cut small holes in a good many of the leaves, but it doesn't make them less edible.
Last year's Katydid and this year's Katydid.

 

That is definitely a Katydid. I do not know what she did, however. This has vexxed me for a decade or more. Can someone explain?

You know, I have heard katydid's my whole life but have never known what they looked like. Now I do!

Not sure what critter is cutting small holes in Kale leaves. It's still edible.

No ...Kale is imo never edible. Maybe you could find the poor creature and give it some spinach?

 

I love the umami flavor of kale.

 

Umami as a term requires a direction. Good, bad, up, down. Nothing about a fiberous tree leaf flavor of kale inspires me to even know which direction I am to expect save the last Kale quiche dishes my dear wife made, which became a point of communication along the lines of "do not do that again".

 

Interesting Dirt. I love the very slightly bitter flavor of kale, particularly when offset by onions or cheese. I had not noticed kale had a fibrous texture. Did your wife pre-wilt them before putting them in the omelette? Maybe chiffonade them?

Many years ago I became pre-diabetic. I have been off sugar for probably 10 years. It is possible to lose ones taste for it. Many things are too sweet. Thus I love the more pungent flavors.

 

I have never eaten kale.

I think a care package is worth considering. As I recall @Odif has not eaten okra either.
