First, a photo of the last of the clematis to bloom. I bought this as a big box special 3 years ago. This month (October!) It bloomed for the first time. Such a deep dark purple! IMG_20191010_101958.jpg IMG_20191010_101953.jpg

Hubbie is a bloom unto himself!

I am unable to post photos of plantings of spring flowering bulbs. It was just bare soil anyway, but I will be very pleased come spring to see blue squill and yellow daffodils after a long hard winter.
I'll see if I can post my mini greenhouse. It is housing the last of the tomatoes, I am hoping they will ripen! IMG_20191010_113745.jpg

I will be splitting the mailbox clematis this spring as it is getting harder and harder for the mailman to find the mailbox and I think the clematis is reading our mail and/or getting its own mail. I think it throws away the seed catalogs to cut down on the competition. A shovel through the middle of the plant should do the trick. :scheming:

No fair anybody writing the clematis and telling it what is going to happen this coming spring.:D

It's took a while to flower :headscratch: but such a rich deep purple and should do well when it thickens and your hubby looks in his element :like:
I had two a pink and white and we messed the fencing so they could cross to panels and they looked lovely in flower until the "beast from the east " took them out

@Gail-Steman Don't know how I missed the photo two posts up - you have a lovely garden! I have the exact same Buddha. One of the local fellows here started making them and I just him this past summer. I don't have him IN any specific spot yet but I'm thinking mine will reside on a tree stump out back overlooking one of the 3 raised garden beds (formerly a veggie garden but now being turned into perennials and herbs)

Thank you it took some work by my husband. That buddha as been replaced i still have it but it's got a slight crack in the neck and my hubby won't let it go lol You'll find a place for your Buddha and my hubby loves herbs and i have a massive lavender on the front he won't let me have out it's in a massive ball. I'll add some photo's so you can fully see the back garden and how he designed it :)

Lovely Clematis. We have two, both dark purple.
Neither did well this year, after several years of beauty.
I suppose we will take the stumps out.
The gardens are put to their winter's rest, covered with
cardboard and grass clippings being added as available.
Leaf shreddings soon and await spring.
I have shared Parsley, Mint, Borage, because we have an
abundance and one neighbor already asked for more Mint.
He made tea and it cleared his sinus problems. I gave him
both with roots attached, advised that he will never be rid
    of either.
    Looking forward to 2020 gardening.

That Clematis looks lovely albeit a bit leggy. Are there other vines growing out of the root ball? If it is blooming now, and now is the time that it is supposed to bloom then pruning it ought to occur in March next season. That colour really is rich and attractive. BTW--do you know the name of this specimen?

As for Jerry's dividing--I am really interested in this. I have never heard of anyone doing this...but if it can be done successfully, I would like to know, and see some pics. Pleeeease.

Oh and Gail--I quite like that little Hebe you showed. I have been looking for a certain type of Hebe for years--the Hebe 'Hidcote'. I just cannot find one here. They are such nice perennials and like you said, come in a variety of colours.

Sjoerd i'd never had one before and they're quite a striking plant they remind me off corn shapes and although the temps are dropping here, it's flowering well. I don't know if you buy plants on line but this link as them the same as mine :)

I had a look at the website. Too bad they didn't have the the one that I was looking for. Oh well, there are many British companies that will not ship trees, bushes or plants to me.I guess that it must be too expensive for them, or perhaps it is a customs issue. Ach well, one of these days, some enterprising firm will import some, I suppose.

    That hebe is gorgeous!

@Sjoerd, that clematis came from the bargain bin from one of the big box stores 3 years ago.It was labelled "Purple Clematis". Yes, very descriptive. It was very small and didn't do much until the scraggly blossoms this October. It will be interesting to see how it develops. I am hopeful. Thanks for the March pruning tip.
