I'll bet that you guys may think that Texas is renowned for our Toni and Jane....but it also has another girl--Teresa James

Another day of this relentless rain....BAH !
    What to do?
Clean house? Right then, done that.
Too windy and rainy for a walk.
I don't feel like reading, or doing things on the tablet...
I will post these pics then.
We went out to the lottie the other day to work in-between the showers. The first thing was to clean the banks of the sloot's (canals) which border our garden on two sides. It is a Gardening club rule and a city government rule (law, actually). Now was the time to do it. It is a messy job and we always get wet and stinky from the water and soil at the bottom of the sloot. Truly a yucky job, but it had to be done. We did that and not a moment too soon.

Next was the serious veggie plot clean-up and winterization. That was important as well, just that there was no municipal law hanging over our heads to get it done. By now you all know how I do the veggie plots, but I will show a few pics anyway, as every year is a bit different.

First of all here is an overview of the majority of work that we did:

We would simply clean and schoffel the plots one at the time and then take the green manure from the following plot that we would work-over and bedeck the cleaned plot with the green manure. That is the way we went, plot for plot until we did the last plot--we had no mulch for that yet, so it will lie exposed to the elements until some flowers or grasses die, then we will cover that one as well.

This was the last plot that we did that day...all nice and clean. The winter leeks are looking smart as well, don'tcha think? Here another angle:

We have cleaned all around the bean wigwam and mulched that. Now we are waiting on the last of the paprika's and to clean the strawb bed.

You can see another angle of two of the cleaned and mulched quadrants:

The plants to the right are Bruss. Sprouts and Parsnip. We are waiting for colder weather before we harvest those. Still to be done are the strawberry beds. They need cleaning and perhaps strawing. I shall consider that.

Ach...it will soon be time to eat then watch some garden shows on the telly soon. I hope that you guys had a more productive day than I did.

Ooooooh, I see what you mean, GAIL. You are right it is hard graft, but the claggy state of the soil made it harder than it needed to be. Normally I would not do this type of work when the ground is soppy-wet...ach, but must needs be--the clock is ticking and I want those beds finished before the frost comes. The darned beans won't stop producing, which is preventing me from finishing that plot off.

Hey CAYU--Glad you liked the song.

Sjoerd i've found this year funny even with my plants..my dwarf weeping willow loses it's leaves by now, haf have gone while new growth is taking place and my flamingo red hot pokers are still flowering...climate change must be doing it.
