What are risers Spector?

 

Husband picked almonds--we had more than expected! I picked squash and two cucumbers, with the help of two cats, finding the produce.
After soaking off the outer shells, we will let the almonds dry, and then spend a morning cracking the inner shells to get to the almond meat. Now I know why almonds are so expensive at the store.

 

Just the usual, pruned a lot more stringers off the wisterias, same with the quinces.
Fed the lawn. Having cleaned the inside of the front room bay window with just a normal hoyusehold cleanser, beforwe putting up new curtains, I then cleaned the outside frames using some mild cleaning paste, same with the front door, they came up like new.

Food Bank gatherings last week.

 

Harvesting and weeding. Planting and transplanting. We have lots rain every afternoon now for the last few days.

 

They are big plastic tubes that take the place of the concrete lids on the septic. They stick up out of the ground, so it is easier for the septic cleaners to find them when you want to clean the tank. My tank had four lids, so it now has four risers. You can get ones that sit underground or that sit on the ground. I chose the latter, but they will probably get buried over time.

 

Nothing in the garden today, as it was a golf day.

But the two peace lilies in the "hanging baskets" in the hall were getting too big and a bit "woody."

So I changed them for a couple of Anthuriums.

cooled off a bit here,,at least till noon ! now back in upper 90`s !

 

Did nothing today other taking a 5 mile walk with a friend. No gardening.

 

Finally hit the post office and it was a plant jackpot (or it would have been if I hadn't paid for all these). Received: two banana plants (Double Mahoi and Ice Cream), two sage (tricolor and common), French tarragon, one Hibiscus Sabdariffa (cranberry hibiscus), and two Pilea involucrata (aka "Friendship Plant"). Also, one of the eight mulberry cuttings I took back in July sprouted!!

Planted some Hibiscus acetosella seeds yesterday, so hoping for some success there.

Pruned up the David fuschia.

 

We harvested and collected our fresh veg and also from other allotmenteers for the Food Bank today.
I also peeked into a hive that has been giving me trouble.
