I waded across the yard in rubber shoes to see the 2.5" of water in the rain gauge.

edit: gauge is a strange word and hard to spell. Is it french?

Nice out today work a bit on my veggie garden redesign. Made my first bamboo tepee for peas that I am planting this weekend and got my tray ready for my lettuce and swiss chard I am starting inside.

After watching MIGardener (incase you're interested) (And buying the alfalfa pellets) I went out and sprinkled some in my garden before the rain. I waited until I knew it was going to rain so the squirrels and bunnies wouldn't take them before the garden could get its fill. Don't even get me started on the squirrels, but here's a good video my son sent me when I complained to him about the squirrels, Next week is the last week before spring break, and during my time off, I plan on planting some seeds that can withstand any frost we may have in the coming weeks. (Another MIGardener tip). When the snow melted I found my garlic coming up and my rhubarb as well. I'm adding another raised bed, this year. I'll have my older one for beans and peas and the new one for the smaller plants like carrots, lettuce, kale etc. My gardens did great last year! Everyone I 've spoken with said the same. I personally think it may have been less pollution, because every one was in lock down.
My basement worm boxes are doing great, as well. I'll have a bit of compost ready when I start planting. I did order some seed potatoes from Woodprairie farms. They'll send them out in April. Not much else can be done, here. The real planting season starts later, my daughter-in-law calls this the mid winter fake out. She swears every year we have another snow near tax time. This is just the beginning of my third year here, so I wouldn't know.

Put all the pots back on the main patio yesterday afternoon. Glad I did as it chucked it down this morning.
Doing notrhing this afternoon. Watching the ice dancing on Eurosport. A bit strange as they are in an ulmost empty arena. Competitors bowing and waving at the end of some good performances to..well.. no one.

Assembled the new grass cutter for our new piece of land that has very rough grass and old trees to negotiate around. It has it own brush cutter as well for around the Edges and Trees. Our Tractor Grass Cutter is not up for the type of terrain, so be splashed out on this monster..It is a Domino TS with a Honda Motor.
Italian Made with a Japanese Motor and the Brochure printed in.. you guessed it...

I went to the lottie today to check things out. We are still caught up, but you know how it is—you’ve just gotta go. Simply being there is fulfilling.

The onions are coming up now. Only a few have wormed their way above ground, but it is a beginning.

I fed the birds and settled down for a haircut. That’s right, a haircut. Don’t tell me to pull the other one, my Bride really does cut my hair, she has done for years. Literally donkey’s.

There was a cold wind blowing, so when she was done I felt really cold around the ears. Burrrrr. We chatted a while with the neighbour lady and she showed off with pride her order of new strawb plants. They were tiny
and planted already. None-the-less, they ought to be alright if they take good care of them. They are experimenting with this, but I have seen other folks doing this out in the countryside and it worked fine. The feeding and watering are the problems they will have to sort out. I have to tell you that I am really looking forward to see how they do. The lady has gardening experience and her man does odd jobs on their lottie. He is accomplished and turns out some good work. Just look at their courgette rack and this elevated strawberry structures:

It was time to replace the daffs at home, so my Bride looked for three new ones. She wanted the flowers but found it very difficult to miss them from the garden. Ha ha... so she put it off until the very last moment and the, only with the greatest difficulty was she able to select the three stems. Cackle.

I can remember seeing a local strawberry grower in business not a general grower and all his strawberry plants were in grow bags on high tables like your neighbours..keeps them cleaner and away from the insects etc...

There are certainly plusses. I expect them to be successful. I can see that grow bags would be a good choice as well.

Greenhouse then the last place we tried and lastly the strawberry table converted and repaired to fit in the Greenhouse..one day it will be up and running...
We had some of ours for a couple of years in a table arrangement and now Husband has converted it to fit a self assembly greenhouse we purchased back in February and we persevered with putting the Greenhouse together but we have as yet found any success with it...Found four places that seemed flat enough, altered the terrain to the spirit level and Husband pulled hair out so enough... so now packed away..Photos deleted of the stages and moved on to other tasks..for now..Living the French Dream again..haha Not...New Strawberry Plants this year and in the Veggie Plot near the Potatoes...

Oh no. When you look up the definition of heavy clay in the Oxford Dictionary it says Dirtmechanic's Yard. I do aerate it and it is better than it was, but when we get a frog strangler it is too much too fast.

Been busy giving tours of the Community Garden to prospective gardeners. Have signed up 5 new ones so far. Have another two in the works.

The Garden is also scheduling a work day to fix the fence. The zip ties holding the wire fencing to the T posts have given out. About half our fencing has fallen over!

Planted first rows of peas, lettuce and spinach. The garlic I planted in the fall is coming up nicely. And my soil is looking pretty good too. I didn't get around to mulching it in the fall, or rather I didn't do all of it, but it's all looking pretty good. Loose & friable.
