We waited all the morning for our package to arrive.
Finally the doorbell rang and they were in !
After eating, we popped out to the lottie with our precious packet.

Twenty Daroyal strawberry plants. Here this is known as “frigo-plants”. They have been stored in fridges all winter. Normally we replace our strawds in august...so this is a trial and if they do as advertised we ought to get fruits this first year. We shall see.

Right then chaps, the weather turned bad and began snowing and sleeting. It looked like perlite balls falling, but we just worked on until all the plants had been planted. Look at this lovely specimen as it is on its way into the hole:

Job done, we headed back home for a warm-up with a mug of cocoa.

@Sjoerd they look like great plants, yes you should get fruit this year, they've been tricked into thinking that they've been through winter to fruit earlier.

Well Loggy, you are spot on about the premise, but I enjoy testing and finding out how things will work in my own garden. I am looking forward to see how it works out. I am beginning a more formally organised strawb rotation system this year and am wondering if this method will prove more productive than my old method.

Dianne—your temps down there must be a bit warmer than here. Your new plants are really coming along well. I hope that they will be productive...if not this year, then the next. My strawbs typically do the best in their second year.

@Sjoerd well I know only supposed to grow the same plants for about 2 years or something like that and then they lose their vigour.

That is the reason we purchased some new ones although we shall have to wait a fair time to get any fruit off them. Seriously thinking now that I want to try and buy some of the Super Large ones
My neighbour shared hers with us last year and the size was huge...the taste was as good as it gets....I know she purchased them online but she has since moved house and no strawberries in the new peoples Garden as yet, but the Husband Antoine has dug over a large veggie plot so will be interesting to see what he grows...They have a new baby boy called Romeo which was a real pleasant surprise to us, they also work from home so there life is very busy.... but sure he will plant up soon...Going to hunt these large strawberry's down....
