I usually know before 10AM what my dinner will be ! The way my family was,, huge breakfast and lunch and what ever was left at dinner ! I have a good breakfast and have a good if sometimes light lunch and do the main cooking in the evening ! But I hate to have to figure it out at the last minute ! So everything is prepped and ready early in the day ! What is your routine ?

I use to plan what to eat, during the commercial breaks of TV shows, (technical TV shows, like on The Discovery Channel or National Geographic, before the arrival of broadband internet)... This may not make much sense to the majority over here, but for some, it would make perfect sense...

    :snicker: :rofl::smt044

Now my routine is, look what's in the fridge - Then brows YouTube with what can be made out of the ingredients I have.

    :headbang:

But if the weather is favorable, and provided that I don't have anything else to do - Then I just grab my fishing rod, and head for the beach... Or if I am too tired, then I just order pizza or burger. But sometimes I go out for barbeque also - Specially if I am not alone, and am with friends.

But of course, as long as this global pandemic continues. It's mostly ordering pizzas and burgers, (if I don't have the supplies to make something myself).

I usually offer my husband "either/or" for dinner. He can choose what he wants and I prepare his choice. We usually have a light dinner, so planning it ahead of time is easy. Tonight is an asparagus quiche. Our asparagus harvest is winding down so I only had enough to chop and add to the quiche, not enough for two servings (we love asparagus and can eat quite a bit of it at a sitting!).

I do not eat breakfast or lunch. I found that eating at those not necessarily important times just made me hungry in a couple of hours resulting in eating way more food than my metabolism can cope with and eventually I weighed way more than is healthy.
Our supper planning starts with "Where do you want to go tonight?"
I hate to cook , not good at it so I figured why put the people I love through the torment of having to eat what I put in front of them and listen to them whine and gag... then have to scrape all the leftovers into the trash.
Sure the various dogs we have had would happily eat all the human food the family scraped into the food bowl but that was not good for them either and being something I cooked even they started hiding when they realized that the humans were about to fill their food dish with my cooking.

And over these last few months so many of the places we love have closed down, some of them permanently, we took on the job of helping them stay open as long as possible. Especially the locally owned and operated places that we loved and were not part of a large chain.

Toni, I am with you on cooking. Now my sweetie grills outdoors year around in mass quantities. He also does the shopping so I eat what is on hand. The frig is always full of good stuff. I also eat only once a day. Everyone else in the household eats at their convenience and since we’re all adults with different schedules it works out well. I generally do the dishes.;)

They are called Seekh Kabaab, (see link for the recipe below),it's traditional BBQ in my country. It can be of chicken, goat, or lamb. But most of the time it's beef. And there is a big reason for it. Because in neighboring India, the cow is considered a devine creature. So slaughter of any cow over there, is a big NO! Recently people who expressed to eat beef over there have been lynched by angry mobs in broad daylight, (just goes to show how dangerous planning for dinner can be in certain areas of the world)...

    IMG_20210420_000603_copy_1200x1408.jpg

However, here in Pakistan, we go out of our way to annoy them, every day and night. It's partly culture, and partly tradition, but mostly because it's fun for us to do! So all the more reason why we take pride in having barbeques like this all over! Don't ask me to go into any more details - Or I'll then have to explain why Pakistan and India have been at each other's throat for almost the last five thousand years now...

@toni great post!! I laughed out loud.

My husband took over the kitchen when he retired. I was okay with it as I was still working a lot. Now he's become a great chef & I am his sous chef.

When he needs a break, I cook.

Actually, he's been out of town the past week, helping one of my brothers to move. So I shopped and cooked whatever I wanted. It was all good. I might even make some of those dishes for him!

S-H that sound good ! While I do not have all the spices listed, I have enough to do a similar blend ! Especially like the treatment of the garlic onions ect ! Never thought about doing it that way !

If done correctly Mart, they are suppose to melt in the mouth as you chew. I am sure that with practice you too will achieve it!

They are to be eaten with bread. Any type of bread will do. But they are best with either Naan, which is traditional Pakistani bread.

    IMG_20180514_210926_copy_2048x1152.jpg

Or Paratha, which is deep fried bread.

    IMG_20180812_201113_HDR_copy_2048x1152.jpg

    That's basically it!

    Thank you Cayuga Morning!

Of course, the best part of dinner is not what you are eating, but who you are eating with. Like our significant other. So this obviously requires planning - But unfortunately, all the good places in my locality where couples could go out on a date, are now either closed until further notice. Or just offering home delivery, or takeaway orders...

    :frustrated:

Otherwise, we over here in Karachi city had some of the best and most memorable places for such a romantic evening.

Of course, they will reopen again, once the pandemic is over - But exactly when, nobody knows...

    Dinner?

    That's not my department.

I get called when it's ready, I'm not party to what is being served. I'm happy with that arrangement.
