DD and I are leaving in a couple of hours for a skating competition! Shes the only one from her skating club going besides her Coach and its a 2 hour drive.
Hoping she does well as she's been working hard!
I'll be busy helping her get ready and packing us a snack bag haha
Have a great day all :)

It is a good day! Yesterday our refrigerator was having a problem and the repairman who came diagnosed and cured the problem, at about one-third the cost of a new fridge. We had resigned ourselves to getting a new one, but I get to keep my old friend and it is cooling everything just right! I spent an hour this morning getting all the food I'd stashed in the big freezer back into the freezer side of the fridge, and found that it ended up being organized! Whoo-hooo!!! Sometimes lemons turn into lemonade. . . .

Refrigerators made today are all a plastic nightmare. My frig in the house is a new one and constantly has issues.. frost on freezer food like diggin thru snow. We put the old frig in the garage all metal and never had a problem. We got a new one because it was bigger and fit in the same area the old one did. it’s a big job to reorganize and clean them out. I need to do that soon.

Good Saturday morning! Currently +4°C, windy and dry. The sunrise is spectacular, ranging from deep purple to pale pink with lots of gold in there too. This usually means we'll have rain later. The sea gulls are moving inland so we can probably expect hard wind with that rain too. I'm going shopping for horse equipment later. I was unexpectedly given the responsibility for an Icelandic horse yesterday afternoon. He's arriving some time next week. He's gonna need a lot of TLC and a slow build-up before we can ride him. It's probably gonna take months of work. I have to plead temporary insanity, but we couldn't leave him where he is. Granny will be back in the saddle before long!

    Enjoy your day, all!

Droopy, you are a magnet for animals! First the cat moved in, and now a horse is moving in. At least the horse won't be in the house (will it?).

This is good news Droopy. It sounds like you are giving him a second shot at a good healthy life. Pictures and progess pictures would be wonderful to see. I agree with MG...between birds in bathroom, King kitties and now a rescued Icelandic....you've got a heart for animals that is for sure. Good on you. Very touching.

Droopy.. lucky you.. Islandic horses are a rugged tough little horse. 14-15- hands. They have special gates that no other horse has. And there are very few in this country and quite spendy. I always wanted an Islandic horse .. they are very smart, beautiful and terrific pets.
Your first issue once the horse is in good health will be to undo all the bad habits . Then once you’re aligned with him …that horse will stand on his head to please you, do all that you ask.. They are a very loyal breed.
Oo worried about the hoses , why is the horse needing TLC? What happened? Luv Islandic’s… How old is the new member of your family? He will luv your garden.

plessse… post a pic.. he should have a thick winter coat. I hope he recovers quickly. Worms is always a big issue with horses. Talk with vet to keep the horse on a healthy regimen. Sending lots of apples carrots beets and oats your way.
pS. Let us know the mare or geldings name? :smt055:smt055:smt055

Good Sunday morning all. Currently -2°C and overcast. Another blah day out there.
I slept in today! I didn't get up until a few minutes after 8am! Now that I'm up, I've had my dog walk and hung some laundry, and now its coffee and GardenStew time!
I don't have to leave the house today, which is nice. Was actually planning to go see the grandkids today, but they have other obligations today so I'll have to wait.
It will be nice just to hang out in my jammies today :)

Netty, I am thrilled that you get a relaxing day! They seem to be so rare for you.
It's cold today, in the 40's, but we do have sunshine. I'm making a nice beef stew (who makes a bad beef stew intentionally?) and husband is watching football. It seems two teams are vying for some title. Can you tell I'm not an avid football fan?
Doing crosswords during the football game, prepping vegetables for the stew, and generally vegetating myself!

Bad stew makin is my middle name. Adding cabbage to the stew actually turned the whole stew a bright green… all veggies, carrots, taters, …the kids were teens ant the time and were absolutely repelled by the green stew. So I told them it wasn’t stew it was a fancy ‘French Quiche.’ French recipes was a big deal back then in the US. Everyone enjoyed their Green Stew ahh.. French Quiche…to this day I get razed about it..

Good Monday morning! Currently 7°C, strong wind and rain. It will get worse during the day and tomorrow, but will slow down on Wednesday. We'll lose the wind but keep the rain. Could have been worse. All this rain could have been snow! The day will be spent making preparations for the arrival of the horse.

Thanks all for the nice words. Yes, we're sort of silly when it comes to animals in need. If we can help, we do. That applies to humans as well. We've had some of those around over the years.

I've taken care of Icelandics before I bought my Truls (not an Icelandic). In my opinion the only reason to have one is the tölt. It's an amazing gait, and when riding it feels like flying. For those who don't know: Icelandics have five gaits instead of the usual three, but I'm not owerly fond of the camel-like gait. Icelandics are also, as Pacnorwest said, quite small, tough, often hard-headed, with a very thick winter coat. Size-wise they are in fact ponies, but don't tell them! The owners had someone to mind the horse full time at a stable away from them because they didn't have time to care for it properly themselves. It wasn't mistreated. It had food, water, friends, and outside time, but was sort of ignored because the minder lost interest. They want to keep the horse but still haven't got time for it, and certainly not now when it's become a project. So we need to build trust, muscles, and a shiny coat. It's a gelding called Skuld. In old Norse mythology Skuld is the norne of Future. The name is very appropriate since he's getting a new future. I'm stabling him where I stabled Gabriella and Truls.

Wish you all a good Monday!

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently -4°C and snowing. Weatherman told me it would be sunny today and snow tomorrow so something is off here haha I was looking forward to some sunshine!
I was in town yesterday and noticed that the stores now have gardening stuff ... pots, soil, trays, seeds ... so that was exciting! I bought some more seeds. Not because I needed any more seeds, but because I can't resist a good deal! 2 packs for $1! There is still many weeks until I can plant anything, but I am ready :)

Happy Tuesday to all! We have rain and cold. The rain is welcome, the cold not so much. I am compensating by doing laundry and making beef pot pies. Husband is putting the finishing touches on the supports for our new shower stall in the bath that has been under construction for months. It isn't that he is lazy, it's the needed workmen that can't, won't show up. We have an expression for it--TI--Texas Incompetence!

Happy Tuesday evening. :) Seems to be evenings are the time I get to sit a wee bit. Yesterday was a big long snow removal day that started at 8 am. Plough truck, shovel and snow blower all came to the party. Today was clean up with the front end loader on the tractor. Today it is snowing and a bit of rain at 0. In two days they are calling for - 30...so that shall be fun. I scoped out Puddins the accidental barn cat's shelter in the loft of the barn and I'll be amending it with some down pillows tomorrow in preparation for the cooler weather. Some spaghetti sauce came out of the freezer for dinner. Easy nights are nice. It's already Wednesday for some of you. :) Tomorrow will be getting ready for apts in town Thursday.

Monday and Tuesday where did they go? Been running around trying to take care of the many chores inside and out that have come with the winter storms.. lots of twigs and branches strewn all over the fields some needed cutting to heavy to lift others just left in place will break down.
The gophers and moles have over taken the whole place again. I jwill wait till I can get out in the fields and set a few traps . It’s usually one or two of these ground critters that make a 500 hole golf course in the pastures they are very territorial.. Too wet to drag the tractor out and when it dries out some will take the front loader bucket and mash them all down. Been using the big heavy blower to remove small twigs and pine needles off the driveway and the roof. Set out some suet cakes for the birds. It’s bacon lettuce tomato sandwiches a fav of DH.

I didn’t know you were a horse person. It sounds like you know a lot about them. Feed, care disposition and their special gates. And yes they have that running gate so smooth like riding on in an easy chair. Very similar to my Tenn Walker. The swing in seat is side to side no up and down bounce. I wish I could be there and help train . It’s amazing to see a horse turn around after learning ground manners and discipline very important . In every horse there is a package full of surprises and a great deal of intelligence. Sometimes it’s the ability to think like a horse , out smart the horse behavior and teach them how to unlearn old behaviors and relearn good behaviors. Keeping them busy and daily schedule will give you the edge you need to rehabilitate Skuld.

Lots of hugs and kisses to Skuld… I’ll be cheering for you both because you will make a great team. I am looking foreword to a pic and what color and mane Skuld has? They are amazing. Sending good vibes your way.
Do you have another horse to help? Horses learn from other horses gave me an edge when taking on neglected horses that were barn sour and not used to attention. Grooming and food is the first thing I learned to gain trust thru there stomachs and then grooming skills helped and last voice tonality when speaking. They are pretty good at ready our body language and vice versa. My horses love laughter and music.
    Cherry - oh , Have fun…
