My husband is very good about putting cups, glasses, etc. in the dishwasher (preferably while it is not running). But, when I finish the loading after a meal, I have to rearrange some things.
In every marriage, there are two kinds of dishwasher loaders--Scandinavian architects, and raccoons on meth.

    You make me chuckle, Jane.
We avoid this situation because we do not use the dishwasher for the supper or lunch dishes. We used to use it for returned honey jars. So now we use it for the jam and applesauce jars. It is all pretty straight forward, but I see the Bride double check sometimes. Ha ha.

I find myself re-arranging the dishwasher every time I open it

    Oh dear!

I'm in charge of two things in the kitchen, the dishwasher and the coffee machine. Mind you, the latter can get rather officious with me, it bangs on in no uncertain terms if it's short of water!

Although I say I am in charge of the dishwasher, my wife likes to put her two penn'oth in.

We have many plastic lock n' lock food containers, which have a silicone seal in the lids. She read somewhere you shouldn't put the lids in the bottom of the dishy, as it's hotter there than at the top and not good for the seals. This of course flies in the face of the laws of physics.
When the cycle is finished, she thinks you shouldn't partly open the door for a few minutes as I do, as it's still "drying."
My explanation that it doesn't "dry," it "drips," as no air can get in, doesn't make any difference.
Opening the door speeds up the drying.
If you use "rinse aid" that actually helps the dripping, not the drying, as it reduces the surface tension of the water on the contents.
Sometimes she "usurps my authority" and puts it on when there's plenty of room in it, with still a few more crocks to go in.
But she thinks it is "full enough."So, it then gets used three times over two days
We don't use salt in ours as we're in a very soft water area, *no fur in kettles."
However, cleaning is her department she regularly uses these cleaning tablets in both the washing machine and the dishwasher empty on "the boil wash" setting.
But for the most part, she's usually lying down when I put it on or emptying, so I do it "My way."
The washing machine has many programmes she uses. But the dishy always goes on "intensive."

A while back, someone on a DIY board wanted to know why there was always grease left on the runners of the drawers of his dishwasher after use.

I took a chance and suggested he used the intensive cycle, not a low temperature one.

    That cured it.

We do all our dishes by hand and we've never felt the need for a dishwasher.

As I always say, "each to their own."
I may have mentioned this before.
We've had dishwashers since the kids were small. When each of the three finally left to set up their own homes, the first appliance they each bought was a dishwasher, as they didn't like the thought of having to wash up crockery (for the first time!)
They felt it was more necessary than a washing machine, as until they could afford one, there was always the launderette.

..........ermmmmmmm.....Salt DHR?? I have furry kettles. :suspicious: I clean the kettle with vinegar every so often. Our hot water tank is self scaling. Didn't even think of the dishwasher. Salt in the wash load can prevent build up? I wonder how that is on the septic system. When I run vinegar through my portable dishwasher I have the soiled water go into a 5 gallon pail and dump it outside so it doesn't go into the septic. I'm very curious friend.

Hubby is a raccoon on meth. hahaha

I always have to rearrange before a wash...bowls cupped together, saucers blocking a bowl, a large item on the bottom blocking water flow, bowls facing up to the sky... Our dishwasher isn't built in. I wheel it over and hook it up when needed. It saves me a lot of time when I need it which I'm grateful for, although we only run it every few days. I use the sink a lot, and if I am I wash what is there. Dirty dishes stacked up mock me so I hide them in the dishwasher. :scheming:

Owning a new Bosch has taught me that we have a button to choose that causes the door to pop open at the end of the cycle which aids drying. It also aids humidity in the house which is not popular here in the Southeast. I also think a German Engineer gets devils horns every time I cannot fit a dish into the oddly shaped racks although that does lead to lighter loading and probably better cleaning.

Two thumbs up to you and DHR. When my wash cycle is over, and way before the drying one is over, I unhook it, crack the door, and wheel it over to it's home at the side of the kitchen. They always seem to turn out just fine after a few minutes into the drying cycle. There is a lot of heat in that element.

*raises hand* I'm the raccoon in this marriage. I am allowed to put the cutlery, cups, and glasses in, but it stops there. My husband insists we use more energy doing the dishes by hand instead of filling up the dishwasher and run that about three-four times per week.

My husband & I each think the other one is the raccoon on meth! Ha-ha. Not really. We each have own own ways of loading it though.

Now..... folding, that's another story. My husband is definitely the raccoon there. I try to rescue certain clothing items before he gets his paws on them.

Lovely to hear so many husbands are helpful around the house! I thought I was the only one with a well-trained husband.

"Training" is a bit of an over statement.

    "My duties."

    Make Cappuccinos once a day.
Bring down the washing (as required)
Take the dried laundry back up again.
    Load and unload the dishwasher.

I get a lot of these "wrong" from time to time and I'm then reminded of, "past errors."
    All in good fun.

Which reminds me of this meme I saw a while back.

The NFL have introduced female officials at some American Football games.
For those unaware, the several officials on the field have yellow flags, which they can throw on the pitch if they see a rules infraction. This temporarily stops the game for a penalty.
The meme was a photo of one of these female officials.

    The tag line was.
"She's thrown a flag for something that happened three years ago."
