We managed to get tickets for the concert in our local church, plus some for a couple of our campers who regularly attend 1940's period events :)

The Church was suitably kitted out.

These are our friends, Kevin actually has a 1940's press camera with a black and white film. Looking forward to seeing his pics when he gets them developed.

The concert was excellent, our friend's Daughter hosted and sung all the old wartime songs. I even knew the words to some of them :D

    Thanks for posting that Zigs.

So many sacrificed so much, gave up life, freedoms, physical well being, so that their families and countrymen could live free of the brutal tyrants and blood-thirsty madmen. It's something we should all remember and honor.

I also like seeing the historic churches and other buildings there. I envy that, a bit.

    Ta Daniel :)

I must admit I found it quite emotional when they played recordings of wartime speeches. Might be 80 years old but I knew most of them.

I've worked most of my life on Churches and historic buildings. I've put some pics up on my "about" page on my website if you'd like to see them ( If @Frank will allow that of course :))

Zigs, there's a guy who posts on Bluesky with photos of old churches. It's an awesome history to see.

I saw a few things that most folk don't get to see Daniel :)

A carved cat's head corbel supporting the tower roof in a church in Dorset, it was put there as protection against evil spirits (all dark spaces had to be protected, often with shoes or broken household items) These things weren't meant to be seen, it was just something the builders did.

On a church in Devon, people had scratched their names into the lead sheeting on the tower roof on D Day. Nearly every church in the country rang the bells that day. One of the names on that particular roof was the first grave I saw when I came out of the church :( It was like the chap had been alive 5 minutes earlier...

On Wells Cathedral there are new carvings where the Medieval work had decayed too far to see what it was. The new carvings should be easier for future historians to date. There's a Mickey Mouse, a Road Runner and a Marijuana plant up there now :D

On Oldbury on the Hill Church in Gloucestershire I saw the shape of 17th Century shoes that people had scribed round on the lead. Next to them was a willy carved by the scaffolders

I got to bring this Angel home from Broomfield Church in the Quantocks. I didn't get to keep it, I just boxed it up to send it off for dating by the Dendrocronologist :D
