Looks good @Logan I've made sure there isn't a hole in the fruit tunnel netting this year, blackbird ate the lot last year

Thanks @Zigs sorry to hear about your fruit last year in the poly tunnel, we've have trouble with those wood pigeons this year, put a lot of tin foil in strips hanging on the bushes, it does work but have to have a lot.

 

@Willowisp0801 I'm not in the town with the column. I'm inland about 100 miles. The Vista House and Multnomah falls are in the town where I live in the Columbia River Gorge

 

Your 9a and our 9a are about 3 zones different !!

They have long winters like the folks in the northern part of the country, (this country) have and their sun is really low in the sky in winter so, eventhough the winters don't go much below 20°f, ( like in my zone) they can't grow some of the stuff I can since there's not enough sun and the cold stays around much longer than it does where I live.

Today I got 1/2 of the grass cut and weedeated then I got 6 eggplants from my two egg plants. After cooking the eggplants we got two thunderstorms: one @ 4:15 and the next @ 7:30 pm which is still going on.

 

@Zigs, I only put perennial seeds in the fridge, never annuals.

It is hot and steamy and the sun shone today. I did get more weeding and pruning done today. My friend still has not showed up for some flowers yet.

I did get a few more raspberries, and a colander of green beans from my garden. Apparently some of my bush beans crossed with the scarlet runner beans because some of them have red flowers...

I have to take a lot of rests in the heat... and drink lots of water.

 

My helper pruned back the ceanothus and lilac hedge. It was getting too tall and rangy. That meant a pile to burn. I don't like burning but that's how they do it here, and there's no ideal way to dispose of all of the brush.

I think there will be figs soon.

I need to clean out the sediment filter on the irrigation system. A lot of rusty sand in there.

 

Early in the morning before it got too hot picked some more pink currants, black currants and loganberries. At 7pm did some watering and keeping an eye on those pigeons.

Wednesday i forgot to put some sun screen on my arms and ended up with mild sunburn, didn't realise it when it was too late.

 

At this time of year I don't set foot outside unless I'm all sun screened up.
But it's very easily done when popping outside in the garden to do one job and then get absorbed in doing a few more and before you know it.....you're barbecuing!!

Just been out to water the Cucumbers and Lettuces and Rocket surprisingly the Tomatoes were damp enough for tonight.
I tend to pick as I go so picked some Strawberries and Blueberries to add to tomorrow's breakfast yoghurt and cereal.

 

More grass cutting !! I swear, the grass is growing an inch a night !! I have one watermelon ready to pick. I'll get it in the morning because I need to eat some leftovers tonight to make room to fit the melon in the fridge !!

 

Nice Anniekay a watermelon ready in your garden sounds delish..… what kind a large or small. Or how bout a watermelon martini..

The sugar peas here are finished; so out they come. Nets away, rack away.


We took some compost out of the Darlek:


We cleaned and prepared the soil for the waiting plantlets.


A little raking and evening-out/levelling, marking the places where we pre-made the planting holes:


Just one more thing— the tamping-down. Then planting the little plants.




We tossed the Enviromesh netting over the bed to keep those little flying insects and wood pidgeons off them. Oh, but what are, “them”?

Them are Cauli’s and Broccoli.

It is an odd time to plant these, I think, but that bed was empty and it is a bit too early for the “green manures”. So, in they went, fingers crossed.

 

This morning I tidied up and added some bedding plants around the Acer in the Pets Resting Garden. I never disturb or dig this area too much as I wouldn't want to disturb the residents......or me for that matter either.

 

Oreti— you were brave getting out in the heat. That place is looking good. No one’s peace was disturbed.
