For the first time in years my apple tree never developed any apples . The horses used to wait and stand & drool by that tree every year. Does anyone have a thought as to why? But I got grapes…the grape vines have recovered from the onslaught of ground squirrels nibbling on the root system. Last year there was barely any vines the ground squirrel invasion is now under control.
Zigs— chuckle. The june drop is over here too. We thinned out our apples yesterday. Nicccccce pics this time, mate. pac— our apple trees do that from time to time. We understood that the trees sometimes need a rest year. Lovely grapes this year.
Thank you @Anniekay and @Sjoerd for your thoughts on why my apple tree did not produce any fruit this year. We hardly had any bees this year a first , we usually have tons around. And as I recall there has been a time or two when the tree just flubbed out . So no apples this season could possibly be both of what you guys suggested. The tree needed a rest and the tree had no bees to pollinate. Speaking for the apple tree needing a rest I think I’ll joint it this year… a break from picking all those apples is a nice break this season. But no apple pies or apple sauce. That’s ok I have rhubarb to make pies, better than pumpkin..
Better buy a couple bags for the horses and tell them they came off the tree !! My Quarter horse was fanatical about radish tops. Pick a radish and his eyes would get big. The first time I gave him a radish with the top on he ate the tops and spit the radish out !!
Only top fruit that set here last year @Pacnorwest were Medlars, and the rats climbed the tree and ate the lot Normally I pick a few rucksacks full of apples from the trees in the hedgerow but last year there wasn't a single fruit on them. Combination of a cold spring, hardly any bees and them going into a rest year as Annie and Sjoerd say. I noticed the tree along the road has set a few apples this year so I'll be off down the field with my rucksack when the time is right. Tetters usually dries all the apples i pick but then she won't let me eat them
