I had similar issues with our brick fireplace last year and ended up going with contractors who handled both the resurfacing and painting. It made a big difference having pros do the prep work on the brick—cleaning, filling the mortar gaps, and priming properly. I painted it myself after that, but getting contractors for the first part saved a lot of hassle and made the paint stick way better.

I thought I would update with the most current appearance of the fireplace area. I still need to paint the trim. Also, a last paint coat on the fireplace - currently it's just primed. The final coat will be white too, but a more durable paint with an eggshell finish.

In a month or so, I'll paint the hallway visible in the background. That wood work will also be changed to white. I can only do one area at a time.

This will conclude this fireplace brick project. I'm glad I decided to do it, and the floor, and the new pain. it's a much brighter and cleaner room. It would not look nearly as good, if I didn't start by painting the brick.

I love it !! @Daniel W that blue is just the shade of blue that I would pick out, and I had very similar flooring in my house in Germany.

Did you have a garden when you lived in Germany?

Wow that looks sooooo good @Daniel W , what a huge difference it's made by covering and lightening the colour of the fireplace.

You have a good eye for colour scheming, all aspects complement one another perfectly.

    Fabulous work.:sete_005:

Yes, yes I did and I had flooring installed in the "erste Stock" (first floor) that was very close to what @Daniel W installed in his Den.

Daniel— what a wonderful job you did with that fireplace. The floor and clean lines. Yes, very nice. Bravo.
The floor looks good too, doesn’t it.
Chapeau. You have so many talents.
