With the weather so hot recently, I guess most people will be using fans. What are you using, if like we, you don't have air/con? Each year, two of these come out, one for the lounge and the other for the front room. They are three speed, have a timer and can be set to oscillate. I bought them in Wilco, it must be over fifteen years ago and they were quite cheap. But you can hear them the moment you walk into the room. But they have quite a good "range." But I wouldn't want one that noisy going in the bedroom during the night. Three years ago, my wife talked me into buying this. It's all "singing and dancing" it even has a remote control. It's set here for 12c which it will never reach, as we want it on continuously. It's that quiet, you have to walk up to it to know it's on. They are a ridiculous price now, nearly twice what it cost back then, but I can recommend them..
Fans I use a lot in summer. I rarely need to use the AC even in hot temps of summer. My home is surrounded by trees which help keep my home cool. Shade cools and trees emit a mist or vapor in summer heat called transpiration. Cooling the areas by 10 degrees or more.
I have gone the whole summer with fans. Left the A/C's in the shed. New York electric rates are high so I adapted to save money.
@Doghouse Riley what brand is that quiet bedroom fan ? I haven't found a truly quiet fan yet. I don't use fans in the house due to the noise and I despise a ceiling fan. I prefer to have chandeliers on my ceilings with decorative surrounds behind them. I use fans outside on my porches. I have a big black one with three speeds set up in the corner of the front porch. On the back screened-in porch I had a cheap 10" wide fan that lasted 6 years. I got it at the Dollar Store for $10 so, I got my money out of that one. To replace it I got a 10" Vornado brand that has very good circulation qualities but, it has a three prong plug. My outlet on the back porch has only two prong capability. I run the cord under the back door and plug it in the outlet that's just inside. I don't remember what I paid for it. I think around $45 or so.
