COOL !! They're looking very good !! @Zigs . In another month I plan on starting mine outside !! I hope they germinate. Cross your fingers for me, please !!
Ta Annie They suprised me. I think it's the cactus growing part of me that didn't throw the seeds out sooner Excellent, I'm sure yours will come up
They'd shot up this morning, having long roots I thought I'd better not leave them in a little pot. Not quite sure where I'm going to finally plant them out yet as it's coming to the end of the summer season and I haven't quite worked out the plan for the winter yet.
Those are growing fast !!. I drew a diagram of my summer garden so all I have to do is not plant my salsify where my carrots were and I'm all set. Still too hot here to plant out root crops, though.I I have some shallots ordered. I got a pound of French grey. That variety is said to do well here in a fall planting. I've never grown shallots before but I suppose they're not that different from onions ?? I'm excited to try them. They'll be arriving some time after mid September.
It's been warm and humid here, think they like it Our Shallots didn't get very big but they were started off before I put the wind breaks in so I've kept a few that I've started off in a tray in the netted tunnel. I'll pot them on in some good compost and plant them out in a sheltered spot to see if I can grow them any larger. The bulbs multipy sideways unlike onions My Autumn planting onion seeds have just germinated, got them in trays in the potting shed. I've also ordered some Kelsae onion seeds which are in the post already. Plant those on Boxing day https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/139327/allium-cepa-kelsae/details
Blackbird pulled out half of the Salsify seedlings I repotted them and put them in the potting shed. These are the Japanese onion seedlings
Your onion seed looks to be germinating quite well !! May that blackbird get boils on his buttocks. I have 3 blackbirds, errr, they may be Crows because they are kinda big, but the Crows don't bother my veg because they are too busy flying away from the Mockingbirds who relentlessly chase and harrass them. Crows steal Mockinbird eggs and the Mockingbirds fly after them and peck them on the head whenever they see one. It's amazing how good those Mockingbirds are at keeping the Crows on the move !!
