I find acorn falls very unreliable. Trees make acorns abundantly due to lack of sufficient rain that year. When the tree isn't stressed from drought periods they don't make many acorns or none at all.

Animals, though, you can count on their judgement !! :p

The autumn crickets arrived early this year. Weather flipped from summer to autumn like a light switch. Yellow leaves all over the place, temperatures in the 40s/50s at night. Suddenly crickets chirping all night long everywhere. In evening lately it is a loud chorus of chirping crickets as far as the ear can perceive. Beautiful, relaxing, but perplexing.

Anyone try to calculate the Fahrenheit.temperature out side at night from cricket chirps. It’s a relationship called the Dolbear’s Law. To get a rough estimate of the temperature count the number of chirps in fifteen seconds and add 40.

Sorry @Logan still not with it. Could you quote the comment I made that you 're referring to please. I have gone back to last week and for the life of me I can't see what you're referring too.

I certainly haven't got to, won't and don't ' just accept ' things. Too many people sit back and do just that without doing anything to try and make positive changes.

    Still confused though.

The emergence of the big broods of cicada resulted in crazy tree damage around here. They slice into the tender growth and lay eggs. That branch will shrivel and fall, and they emerge and burrow to start the cycle. Meanwhile the trees go on vacation while they mend themselves from being so abused by a guest.

We get that here too. I had a few molting on my Paw paw trees but they lay their eggs on the oaks, especially my red oak. That big 200+year old tree is a favorite of theirs.

That's cool Pac. I've never heard of the Dolbear's law.
