Social services supplied one of these shower seats for my wife when she came out of hospital, for when she felt confident enough to use it.

A few months ago, she did start to use it, but she never felt comfortable with it. It was also a bit of a squeeze (and a pain) getting it in and out through the shower doors.
But she finally agreed (after weeks of negotiations) to let me buy a folding one I can fix to the wall.
It arrived this afternoon. It's well made (in Germany) and has a "padded seat," (softish plastic), well worth the £72. A disabled equipment supply company would have wanted a fortune to supply and fit one.

This was a "dry run," to determine exactly where she wanted it, (my suggestion, which she surprisingly agreed, was the right place) on the side wall, I won't want to move it, if she changes her mind, as it could leave ugly looking redundant screw holes in the tiles).

I ordered one with adjustable legs, as the left leg needs to be longer to accommodate the slight slope towards the drain of the shower floor.
After use, you just fold it up against the wall, it's kept in place by friction of the hinges.
I'll fix it to the wall tomorrow.

I also re-did the sealant between the shower tray and the bottom row of tiles this morning. That was a real pain as it meant lying full length half in and half out of the shower to scrape out the old and re-apply the new.

It will mean she can reach her "stuff" in the rack and use the rail to lower and raise herself when she uses it.

I'll still have to turn the shower on and off for her and hand her the shower head, but she'll then be able to cope by herself and then call me when she wants it turned off.

That's a neat little seat and anything made in Germany is made to last !! :smt023. This is good to know since the day may come that I might need a shower seat myself. Thanks for posting.

    Did the job this morning.
Like most things these days, for me, it wasn't easy. But then, when I look back at DIY jobs I've done decades ago, they weren't easy either!

Settled on the final position, checked with a spirit level.

Then drilled the five required holes for the screws.
This bathroom has, "tile on tile," beyond that it's plaster, before you come to any brick.
So I needed deep holes to take long screws which would pass through the holes in the seat bracket.

You have to be careful drilling tiles as the bit in your drill wants to "skate." So for this sort of job I always start off with a small bit, then change to the required size and not use the hammer setting on the drill until I knew I was through the two layers of tiles.
I had to use a conventional screwdriver, as the legs and rail of the seat were in the way of my drill when using the screwdriver setting. I bought some screw-head caps, so we don't have ugly looking screw heads showing.

    Anyway, job done!

I got the expected wind up from my wife, who, when "inspecting it," said that she would prefer it moved over a couple of inches. My response was, "Do you want me to make you a cappuccino or not?"
It was quite warm this morning and working in a confined space I got very hot and when I'd finished, I needed a shower.

    Fortunately.....

That thing looks smart, Riley. There is such a sit-thing in many residential lifts over here. Use in a shower space seems a no-brainer. Good thinking and good work. It is of the quality that we have come to expect from you. Chapeau.
p.s. I appreciate the humour of your closing statement.

There's enough room to her left, it doesn't need to be too far away, or she wouldn't be able to reach the rack with her shampoos etc.
She's actually quite happy with it and has already tried it out.
