Couple years ago I discovered an old sitcom Corner Gas. Its about a diner/gas station in Saskatchawan Canada. Its my go to when there is nothing interesting for me to get into. Its like 5 or 6 seasons and I am probably into my 5th watch by now. I love it so much I have become a Roughrider fan in the CFL.
Ok thanks JD . The weather is turning into winter as freezing temps are creeping in , I have ‘Corner Gas’ streaming on prime. I will take a peek . Right now watching ‘AllS Fair’ . Utterly disgusting… What a mess that show is. I can’t believe how bad it is. Even reviews have given this new streaming show ‘0’ stars. That says it all. All the hype this show got before it aired, it’s so incredibly disappointing. The ‘Ducky Lips’ on women in this series is crazy. Well at least it gives me something to gossip about.
We're nearing Christmas and the number of charity commercials are increasing. Mostly for animals. Most will be made by advertising agencies. I suspect many of the people used for homeless ones will be actors. Those with the most appealing demeanour will be considered to be the most effective. The Salvation Army is running one, amongst the unfortunate people shown, is a young mother with a child of about a year old. The "story" is that she's "on the breadline." You would have thought they could have chosen a child without gold ear-studs.
I saw the complete second series of The Squid Games, (after watching the first series at the beginning of this year) - Second series is so mentally unsettling, that I, after watching it all, don't recommend it to anyone... Unless one's aim is to attain a state resembling clinical depression. Seriously, just don't bother watching it. Because if you watch TV programs for enjoyment. Than this is the complete opposite, I say it here and now - God only knows why anyone would bother making such a horrible TV show. And even more so astonishing is, why is it so popular??? I kept watching, in the hope that it'll turn around, and there'll be a happy end - But 8t kept on getting worse and worse. Has everyone in the world suddenly gone completely nuts? Or did the TV show makers just played a practical joke on all their viewers? Seriously, don't bother watching it. Just not worth it...
For UK viewers who have watched both series of "Dark Winds," I've had an e-mail from Geektown to the effect that series three will be starting on "U" on 9th December at 9.00pm.
Former, "Wonder Years" actress, Danica McKellar is a "Serial Christmas Movie Star," amongst the well over 100 films in which she's appeared, more than a dozen have, "Christmas" in the title. They are all romances, mostly on the Hallmark channel Best remembered probably is "Love at The Christmas Table," in 2012. Here at 37, she was ten years older than her co-star. Although it's a fictitious group on the soundtrack, the catchy recording by, "Terrie and the Carlas" is available on YouTube What caught my attention was the unamplified vintage record player in this scene, able to play a track on an album, with a steel needle, that turntable had extension speakers on the patio. Huh? In many of her films, the "romance" is with a member of "royalty." Usually with someone in an obscure fictitious European country, where they all speak perfect English. I noticed there was one on last night, so I looked it up. A crown prince, was expected to marry, to carry on the line and obviously, chose her. It was released last year, when she was 49. Huh! I also noticed on IMDb, She's made another romance this year, at the age of fifty! You have to give it to her, searching her name on YouTube, this also came up, dancing ten years ago. Would this be, "Dancing With The Stars?" There are probably going to be more Christmas films, there's no stopping her, I can envision, "Love At The Care Home" eventually. Apart from "Love At The Christmas Table," I've not watched any of her films, but do notice how often her Christmas films are shown on TV each year. So she's popular.
A couple of classics coming up. Tomorrow, Saturday BBC 2 at 10.05 a.m. A favourite Christmas film of mine. "Holiday Affair" Starring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh. Later... One of my all-time Noir favourites. Tuesday, BBC2, 3.50pm "Laura" Starring Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews. Clifton Webb got an Oscar for, "Best Supporting Actor." Curiously, the haunting theme music was never intended to be released. From IMDb "Despite the Oscar snub of the score, David Raksins music proved to be so popular that the studio soon found itself inundated with letters asking if there was a recording available of the main theme. Soon, sheet music and recordings of the instrumental music were released and proved to be a huge hit with the public." It became a "jazz Standard," recorded by many. (Including me). https://app.box.com/s/rmvo76kx22r01xhpini1x939oacpr2uw
There’s a lot of Holiday specials on tv this time of year. Most of the Xmas movies have worn thin over the years. The newer movies are usually ok many on lifetime channel with a subscription. Nothing like the older holiday movies of the past so long ago they are still popular that can be streamed anytime online.
We watch the old Christmas movies. My favorite is We're No Angels--great story line, great actors. The George C. Scott A Christmas Carol is really good, too. The original with Alistair Sim is another we watch. We also have DVDs of Christmas concerts, with Il Volo's being my favorite. The newer holiday movies just don't seem in the spirit of Christmas to me.
