popular What have you done today in the Garden?

Anniekay we are so soggy here it’s hard for me to imagine having to water my garden this time of year in my zone as you must in your zone. You take a lot of time and care for your garden plants / veggies….


I’m sort of on a garden break no watering here it’s way cold , that is if ya don’t include cleaning up after winter wind/rain storms. Most of the garden is in a sleep mode and water is shut off in the pump room so the lines outside don’t freeze up.

Mowing and checking pastures along with constant clean up all winter. Sooo when we get a break from the rain I’m run out and clean up, do all the necessary stuff to keep from becoming overwhelmed with clean up next spring. High today is 50F, way above normal. Today wind advisory out as the weather is winding up for more clean up weather which means more fallen branches . we don’t lose power or the internet..

 

Pac, I had enough clean up the last two years with the hurricanes, only mine was all at once over a week to get it half ways decent. We're due to get snow again this year. Give it a month or two and I'll be posting pics of my snow-covered yatd !!

 

Really that was a lot all at once. I’m so anxious to see your snow covered ‘YATD’!
Or simply put .. A fav Christmas memory of your beautiful garden Past or Present .

 

Okay, okay @Pacnorwest . Anybody ever call you a "Nudge" or what ? .
The last photo was from Dec. 2021 before I got the house painted. It's got the old trim colors. No snow that year.

A noodge, nudge or a slight push is a wink wink . Since I can’t physically nudge you with an elbow or a slight kick on your chair , I guess a verbal pester nudge is a gentle reminder that your garden is appreciated. As always adore your pics … the nudger approach worked … AND ….. I also see snow.

Didn't do this today on account of it being Christmas but last week I pinched some Mistletoe berries off the ground under the barrow outside the farm shop and seeded the Apple, Medlar and Holly trees

I made a T shaped slit in the bark, slid the seed under it and bound it with Raffia.



Should take a year or so before seeing it sprout

 

Nothing done for a few days. But we're promised dry weather now for several days. I can get into the wisteria to do their winter prune. As always, I'll reduce the size of some of the heads.
Then there's the acer palmatums dead wood to prune off.

 

Not "in" the garden but rather "destined for" the garden. I started seeds under the grow lights.
I started Comfrey which it stated to start without grow lights and, I had cold stratified it previous to planting.




Then we have, under grow lights, English Daisies, Gerber daisies, ( those do very well in my garden) Stinging Nettle, yep !! California Wonder Peppers, Cactus Dahlias ( first time for me starting Dahlia from seeds !!) Chocolate Peppers, and Heat Master tomatoes.



I'm still waiting for my seeds from Baker Creek. I got two different types of tomatoes that I'm excited to start. They send them via "Turtle Express", evidently !!

Ok all you Stewbies with garden stuff started like ordering seeds, seedlings growing , wisteria trimming , apple tree , bark T budding … are way ahead of me. I didn’t even plant my amaryllis bulb collection this year. My bad , but to buzzy to concentrate on flowers for the Holidays with family obligations.

I’m totally down sizing this season and next . Until, I cannot ignore the call of planting anymore… . Hard to stop the management of the critter onslaught of years past and you all know that sad drill it’s very time consuming . Keeping it simple this next season until I can’t refuse the call of planting any longer. . Until my hands begin to itch for that satisfying dig in soil , the olefactory of fresh compost and the many cheerful surprises waiting to bloom next spring. It’s a jungle out there…

 

It's that time of year Pac

When I was a mod on a bigger gardening forum, this was the time of year when the most fights broke out as gardeners get stir crazy

 

Yes !! I remember the know-it-all over there !! Every forum has one, except for here, thank gawd !!

 

What other garden forum are you guys referring to?
There is a couple different forums but everything is relative… - some things more than others..

it’s still dark at 6am here. Not planning on much other than the usually outside mow check for critters.

I think it was the one where a Mod interfered too much. Particularly if they thought you'd drifted off topic. Do that too often and people will stop posting, as I did.
