When doing jobs in the garden, my maximum working "day" is about 10.00am. to not much later than 3.00pm. My two slices of marmalade toast and a black coffee around 9.00am. sees me through.
I don't come in for lunch, as if I sat down I wouldn't want to go out again, anyway, I wouldn't be "allowed in, wearing my "scruff" and I can't be bothered to change.
But I might have a couple of beers from the fridge in the tea-house. around 1.00pm.

It was sunny and 50s today, so much of the snow melted off, except in the shady spots.

fyi, I forgot who mentioned it, but I never hurry...I am a slowpoke. I do not run. I gave that up many years ago, it is too dangerous. There used to be some cartoon characters when I was a kid Speedy Gonzalez and Slow Poke Pete. I am more of a Slow Poke Pete. I do trip and slip and fall easily for some weird reason.

Logan I see your garden is thriving and manicured to the fullest extent. No time for a sit down is common especially in spring. Your attention to detail is outstanding. Your Garden tour coming in spring? :fingerscrossed:

You don't need to be running, I've proved that. I've fallen over a concert Ballard just by not looking where i was going and broke my knee, it must be about 8 years now.

At my age, gardening, housework, golf and walking briskly when out shopping, avoiding lifts and escalators by always using the stairs, keeps me fit enough for what I want to do.

It's not raining today, but it did last night and there's quite a bit of water in two corners of the patio which will take all day to clear.
That's because late last night when I looked out, I noticed there must be a blockage in the gutter above the French windows, caused by moss draining off the flat roof lounge extension. So I'll get the ladder, a trowel and bucket later and clear it.
    Edit.

Been outside, cleared the blockage, it started raining as soon as I got outside! That's it for the day! Tennis, football, golf and Winter Olympics on TV.

Who has time to sit .......anywhere..... at this time of year and..esp.in Spring!!! Anyone who can please share how you manage it.....you must be super organised!!

Spent a very damp morning out in the garden. Managed to collect up some more spent leaves ,seed heads, snapped small branches etc.

Started sifting some more compost for seed sowing.

Unfortunately I found that a couple of the big Dahlia tubers that I had to dig up (( as they had outgrown their original space :() had gone mushy and mouldy . Another reason why I prefer to leave them be in the ground then cover to overwinter.
I snipped off a small tuber from each, it was hard to find a decent and hopefully viable bit but it's worth a shot....nothing lost - nothing gained.:fingerscrossed:

During my annual "Wellness Exam", ( yearly physical) my Doctor always asked me one question that makes me giggle every time. "When was the last time you fell down?". Simple answer, : I don't. I still take off sprinting back to the house and up the steps if it starts to rain suddenly. I'm only 72, though, so give me another 10 years and I'll probably be picking myself up off the ground weekly !!

Sunday will be the last night for below freezing temps so on Monday I have 4 cabbages to plant out.

My broccolli all kicked the bucket as did my Broad beans, so, I am, today, incorporating those into the soil in the raised beds and going to get the soil prepped for setting out my cabages. I have 4 that are a month younger than the ones going in the ground monday. Those will go out in a few more weeks. All else that's growing indoors now are warm season.

Anniekay your a sprinter from your house door to the garden . Good for you. For some reason that makes a lot of sense since you were riding horses for years . In many cases it has been a huge help building strong leg & arm muscles over years. Wouldn’t you agree that horseback riding has helped keep us physically fit during those years. Maintaining good strength coincide with daily gardening exercise . For 72 yrs you’re in great shape and I applaud all your efforts to stay healthy and strong. Growing your own veggies and all that coincide with a healthy lifestyle. It’s not always easy but considering the alternatives it’s a huge factor to maintain what we can as time passes. Just keep it movin as long as possible. :smt023

Oreti keeping up with garden tasks is helpful. I try and do the same rain or shine… pulling weeds , snapping off twigs , trimming vines and snapping off seed heads. The blackberries drive me up a wall literally as they attach to out buildings and tree branches . Sneaky lil buggers as I sometimes think those blackberry runners purposely sneak around when I’m not looking and hide when I am. I’d rather do a little bit daily than have it add up over a few days. I hate feeling swamped with garden tasks it takes the fun out of it. You’re always so busy keeping your garden nice and tidy , planning ahead and keeping the time element in check while preparing for spring planting .

Unfortunately by removing several trees last fall that left several open former shady spaces into sunny spaces and the former tree spaces are all now covered in weed seedlings. Will have to sort that all out soon. But for now downsizing the garden has been a big change and a huge relief by not having to worry about beetle damaged trees and limbs falling . It’s a lot to do during gardening season especially in the realm of to many tasks at once , so this year I’m hoping to keep the whole garden down to a better manageable level. :smt023 Whatever that is..

That's true @Pacnorwest. Training and riding horses exercises the whole body and builds muscles that you didn't know you had. Those supporting muscles that we deliberately build up in our horses are being built in our bodies as we ride.

I have always been falling down someplace or other since I learned to walk as a toddler, and sometimes hurt and broken bones. I do watch where I am going. I don't run--too many injuries from that nonsense years ago. When I was in my 20s, people were like "you should take up jogging, you need the exercise." I was slender and fit. Hah. I sprained BOTH ankles 3 times in one summer and gave up jogging and running for good. I do get lots of exercise. I used to walk 3-5 miles daily plus lots of other exercise. I am not an athlete though, and I hate sports. I also hated recess and gym class. I used to roller skate, ice skate, hike, etc. RXs made me gain a LOT of weight in 2006 and I quit ALL of my RXs about 2 1/2 years ago. I am slowly losing the weight. RXs are poison. I garden, I walk 5 dogs at least 4 x a day. I go walking otherwise. I lift 50 lb feed sacks and bales of hay. I dug about 50 ft or more of ditch last year (and injured my shoulder). I still have that big pile of ashes to move soon. I built my new shed chicken coop a few years ago, and got one dandy concussion doing that. (I have had multiple concussions). That concussion was because I fastened a 2x4x10 board different at each end. So 2 friends who are carpenters, and my own DS said, "you have to redo that." So, I was up on my 8 ft ladder undoing one end with a prybar to make it match the other end. It came loose and whacked me upside my head and knocked me flat on the ground. I never claimed to be a carpenter. Next time I make a mistake, the critic can fix. I won't. Anyhoo, I am just plain clumsy. The PA Dutch call it a Klutz. I am 71...

thanks for listening. I do get tired of people who say "you need more exercise..."
