You have a lot going there @Zigs and it all looks fantastic !! I have a bunch of stuff going and can't wait'll Spring has Sprung to get my tomatoes and Peppers outside. I'm well pleased with my Wooley Kate tomato plants and the heatmasters are the super tall ones. The peppers are getting big, I had to pinch off some early buds already. I got my first taste of being stung by the stinging nettles. Not that bad!! The sting wasn't too strong and only lasted a minute or two. See the Wooley Kates in back?
No idea what tomatoes these are, they came up in other pots over winter and I didn't have the heart to weed them out This is the only Mangel Worzel that came to anything
@Zigs did you eat the tops too ? I've never grown those but I read that you need to eat them when small, so you're all set !!
We didn't Annie, the birds had the tops away They've eaten all the outside spinach, cabbage, sweeds and worzels Still got a few undercover but they'll probably bolt as soon as it warms up now.
I use the fruit tunnel for some things but it wouldn't be practical to cover the whole garden We've got enough spinach so the birds are welcome to some as well. We feed them all winter with grain too
Looks like sad beet of a different color… actually beets are first class heart healthy foods just can stand the taste. I don’t care what color they are . Cooked & chopped exxtrremely well disguised is the only way I can eat them
I only like pickled beets but I grew golden beets this year and they are supposed to be less strong in taste than the red ones.
Tetters cooked up the Mangel Worzel for lunch It had a few woody bits but tasted fine This is the fruiting tunnel where I've put a few cabbages away from the butterflies (who came in thru the net as catterpillars ) and birds.
Also got hold of seeds of an old vegetable - "Skirret" At a pound a seed I've sown them in a pot and not direct into the ground.
