About how long is it and does it have any spots or stripes? Also, what color is it...white, yellow or cream?

Its probably about half a finger length when at rest, and its rather a cream color. Its got a black stripe down its back (skin I think, not hair). the hairs seem to be in little tufts

Off hand I do not know what type of caterpillar it is. Over the last couple of days I have been looking thru the caterpillar pictures on Whatsthatbug.com and bugguide.net and have not found anything resembling your description.

Why not take a look at those two sites, maybe you can ID it since you have seen the caterpillar in person.

I've looked at lots of caterpillars, with and without hair, with stripes across but not along, but I'm not sure I've seen your caterpillar anywhere. Just one black stripe, not two rows of dots?

Does it have a tail piece on one end?
