Was surprised to see my gloxinias (nicely sleeping in their pots in the closet/pantry) are waking up. It's a bit early. They could have slept for another month or so. Can I still have in the dark and dry or should I indulge them and put them on the windowsills?
Not much room there... so I'd postpone this action if I could!

    Hello Calin.

I am thinking that if you take them out and put them on the windowsill now several things will come into play: they will have more light...but the light will be quite weak and there won't be much of it as the daylight hours are still quite short.

They will also be having more warmth and a little more water (because when they are out of the darkness, they will grow faster and as they grow--they will require more water or else they will wither and die.

Also the weak light and short exposure will cause your plants to grow long (tall) and spindly on tender stems that will ultimately not be able to support their weight and they woill lean or even collapse.

It is such a difficult choice. If they were only say, two weeks too early--then it would be simple to take them out and their chances of survival would be pretty good. Now with another month and a half to go, I am not so sure.

If you wait, they may continue to grow, but it will be slower. If you can keep them even cooler than they are at the moment then keeping them in the dark would be a better chance in my opinion.

    Good luck with this.

I agree with Sjoerd, try to put them someplace cooler to slow the growth. Or supplement the lighting for them if you have no other option.
