Since our flowers don't suffice for the little hummingbirds/gluttons, I make a sugar syrup nectar to fill our two feeders.
It's an easy recipe--1 c. white sugar, 4 c. water brought to a gentle boil for 3 minutes (stirring often to emulsify the sugar). Let cool and keep refrigerated until needed. Do not add any red coloring! Not needed, and possibly toxic to the hummers.
We get such joy from watching the hummingbirds that the small cost of the sugar and time is well worth it.

Earlier this summer I bought so much sugar that I am sure the people at the store thought I was moonshining ! Now we only have a few regulars !

I am envious of your hummer joy. You know that we don’t have them over here, right?

I could easily make up that solution but it would only attract wasps here. :(

I may have stumbled onto something, but I doubt it will become a trend. I have my panel lift for sale and I notice the little hummers are just in love with it. They think it is a big red hummer tree. 69377_W4.jpg
