Well no it isn't but doesn't it look just like one? It's actually a Dragon fruit that Ian bought today. I must say I wasn't very impressed with the taste - or lack of it - but it looked quite pretty so I took it's photograph. :-D
Eileen, this is a perfect example of why a man should never be allowed to go to the grocery by himself.
Now, my dear Jane! I do the bulk of the grocery shopping around here! It takes me about 1/4 the time to purchase the same items as the missus. I am also a much better cook than my wife (she will gladly admit it too). I keep the kitchen cleaner whilst cooking too.
Now that is a really neat looking fruit. Maybe your honey has been dreaming about going fishing and couldn't resist the fish shape.
wow. huo-long-guo would be the chinese name for it...and it means "fire dragon fruit". some fruits really look like that. found it everywhere in taiwan. wasn't impressed by the taste either. and all those poppy kinda seeds inside...(like in a kiwi). but a kiwi also has taste, flavor - this was more like JUST SWEET. I wish my cutting that I brought over, and turned into a MONSTER would at least make me happy with at least a bloom!
I'm not too sure I would have eaten that either! I tried a new fruit last week...prickly pear. I wasn't impressed with it either.
Come on.... only mine looks that BAD! Google for "fire dragon fruit" or "pitaya / pitahaya" and you will see nice plantations, beautiful blooms and not at all ugly fruit!
