Fri. and this morning we have had killer frosts here. Any tender plants left outside are now toast! Also the weather service will stop issueing frost and freeze warnings for this season.
I know the end of season is coming but. I had tarps, old bath robes you name it.These are for the mums. Not giving up with out a good fight. :-D
We had already cut back almost everything. They had finished blooming and we knew it was coming. So everything is shut down , cleaned up and ready for winter.
My peppers were done in this morning. when I walked past with the dog they were all pretty crisp :'( I am afraid to go to the high tunnel.
I gathered all the hot peppers this am before the sun got to them after the frost. I am now in the process of making pepper jelly. 12 half pints with this recipe. If'n I like it, I'll make 24 more pints or so. Had a boil over on the stove. All doors and window open and fans blowing. Whew!!!! Lots of acrid smoke. Think I'll wait til the missus gets home to finish. Gotta wait for the stove to cool so's I can clean it up. Big mess by me!
I LOVE hot pepper jelly. Good luck. I use all the hot peppers I have, not just one kind when I am making it. I have also had the most success using the recipe that calls for certo, not powder pectin.
We've had frost for quite some time now. The last few days it has been really bad :-? It's almost the first of November, what do we expect? I still need to get out and cut back a few peonies maybe I'll get that done this afternoon
Well, they's serrano's, jalapeno's, cayenne, and marconi's in this mix. I'm usin' certo liquid to set this up. A dab of red food colorin' for warning and I'm good to go.
Another heavy frost this morning. That's 4 days in a row. We had a little shower about 4 pm Sat. eveening and that created ice on the front porch this morning. Sure am glad that I'm not in New England though!
Yep got us as well, our impatiens that have lasted well all year took it hard. Luckily i have been watching the weather channel for it. And managed to pull it most of the plants i needed to.
