Now I have asked on another forum I visit, but as there are a lot more of you American buddies on this site, I thought you might have some more interesting recipe ideas. I always make a lot of mulled wine at this time of year and I have never really followed a recipe, just tasted and added as I have gone along. This year I have decided to check out a few recipes, and they are all very similar, but I wondered if anyone had any special twists that they always do. So lovely chums, give us your mulled wine recipes! :-D :-D :-D
EJ I have never tasted Mulled wine.I know that sounds stupid but have never had apple cider.Maybe one day.
EJ I don't drink so I'm not much use really when it comes to answering your question about a recipe for mulled wine BUT..... my mum used to make it. I know she added cinnamon, cloves, lemons, oranges (satsuma or mandarin segments) sugar, nutmeg, brady and herb tea. I don't know the quantities she used to use of each ingredient though and, sadly, mother is no longer with us. Maybe someone else will know the amounts to use.
A few years ago, I made a mulled wine spice mix that I gave as Christmas gifts. I thought it was good, and I got good feed back from the recipients. This is the recipe I followed: Mulled Wine Spice Mix The dried rind from 2 oranges (chopped fine) 8 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks, broken into small pieces ¼ cup whole cloves ¼ cup whole allspice 4 whole nutmeg, cracked and broken into small pieces 3 drops oil of cinnamon Mix all ingredients together, yields about 1½ cups. I put the mix into decorated glass jars, and included a card with the following; Instructions for use: Combine 1/3 cup Spice Mix with 1 qt Burgundy and 1 qt apple juice. Heat to boiling - cover, reduce heat, simmer 20 to 30 minutes. Strain before serving.
What a lovely idea for a gift zuzu. A friend of mine does somthing similar in jars, but hers is cookie mix which she puts in in layers, then adds the instructions to the handmade tag. Food for thought - thank you!
