This is my key lime pie succulent. It has been getting lanky but I know why that is. The problem is It is getting all these air roots and I don't know why. Is there a deficiency, too dry, too wet or something else? Even my young ones that I started are getting these air roots and they look great and not lanky. The lankiness is from when my light failed on me for about 3 weeks. I am sure they didn't like the lack of quality lighting. The problems are much older than this though. This one I don't remember the name of, I had the technical names but it was all on my other computer and I have yet to retireve it. Anyway, it is growing like made but all the new growth is 1/4 the size of the older growth and almost seems to be pruned in a way. I also just found that it is putting out a ton of really nice white roots above the ground which seems weird to me. Is there anything I need to do or is this normal? Can I leave them alone and just let them take root making one huge plant or do they need to be seperated? Maybe it is a good time to mulch, add compost and otherwise give them a nutrient boost as they have never been fertilized and I have had both for about 6-7 months. Also, I as they are succulents, should I add some lime to the topping soil to make the soil just a little acidic?
I used have the first plant you posted with those small roots too Adromischus cristatus, or crinkle leaf Plant I called mine. Those are aerial roots on the stem which I'm pretty sure are perfectly normal Both your plants look great 8) nice and healthy! You might be able to find the information your looking for under "aerial roots" and the scientific name :-D
Adromischus cristatus, that's the one, I looked forever, thank you. I guess it is normal and a sign it is in very good health. That's a relief. Pretty sure the other one is Haworthia cymbiformis but not sure the variant. I guess I need to get used to them growing and just do what I have been doing. Since they haven't melted I must be doing something right ater 6 months.
I really like the first one, the Adromischus cristatus. Great pic by the way. Do you happen to know where I could get one?
I got mine at Home Depot. Have seen them in Walmart in the spring. If you want an online source: http://www.gosucculent.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? I have not ordered from them but they have the best prices I have found so far. I have 4 other starts but I doubt I could ship them and have them get there in one piece. I don't know if I have any other large lower leaves to take off but I can look if you don't find one localy.
