I was watching about a dozen squirrels chasing each other earlier. There were 4 or 5 chasing one, so she must have the males really after her. Also a good indicator here of spring is that the Mock Orange shrubs start turning a reddish color when the sap starts flowing. The spikes from last year are a dark red right now. The skunk's are out from hibernation and looking for food. But it has been so mild this winter, they may not have hibernated to begin with. Yesterday as I was going out the driveway, I had to stop just short of the bridge to let traffic clear. There was a skunk coming across the bridge. He DEFINATELY had the right of way!
That is good news....not yet here though in Wisconsin even though we have one of the best winters I can remember...I just hope it doesn't mess up our spring. One sign of spring I like to see is the chipmunk coming out of hibernation......won't he be surprised to find all the other squirrels that have joined together in my yard. More work for him to get food with so much competition...Poor Willy!
crocuses are just peeking out of the ground, but i'm watching for the first robin, then i'll believe it for real!
A sure sign that spring is here is my wife has me scraping wallpaper off the bathroom wall and the window is open. Spring?........ Cleaning?.......Right?......No? Hoodwinked again. :-( Jerry
