You know how we like to go to yard sales and estate sales. Well, we went to one yesterday and found some nice stuff and the lady said they would have more stuff today. So, of course, we stopped back today. The driveway was lined with boxes of books and we stopped and started looking through them. There were lots of kids books and I've been sending our 4 yr old grandson a book every week or two. The man told Brian, "I'll give you a price if you take them all." Brian told him that we didn't have money for that today and the man told him to just stop by and pay him when we had the money. So, Brian told him we'd take them. They loaded the bed of the truck and the back seat and there were a few boxes left. We took that load home and went back and there was another stack of boxes as big as the first. The man told us that he hadn't moved all the boxes out before and these were the rest. 50 boxes total we brought home and unloaded. We started going through the boxes and putting aside the ones we wanted and we have three tote boxes so far. We have 17 LARGE boxes to finish tomorrow. The ones we don't want to keep will go to the Friends of the Library for their next book sale. We've already more than made our money with the ones we kept. Our grandson may have to get two books a week if we get many more. dooley
Are you erudite? Yes. Yes. Yes. Children should be taught to read. And to continue reading-throughout their adulthood. I think that's what spurred my imagination, reading. One book in particular that sort of goes into this is a memoir by Louis L'amour, 'Education of a Wandering Man'. Someone should start a topic, what is your favorite novel. George Orwell's 1984 for me.
Dooley, I am so glad for you. That was a treasure. You are a great grandma. Your Grandson is so blessed!
One of the better presents growing up were books. The toys are gone but I still have the books. While technology has allowed books to migrate from the bookshelf to digital readers, somehow a bookcase would look empty with only an e-reader sitting on it. Jerry
