We have a sugar maple that has been dropping leaves about 4 weeks early for the past four years. Doesn't seem to be getting worse, but like clockwork our maple is cleaned out by the time the others are starting to turn. Anyone know if I need to be doing more to help this tree?

We are in Wisconsin, and I estimate this tree to be 30-40 years old.

In addition to heat and drought stress, the tree may be hosting a fungus. This would probably impact the leaves physically but some are seen on or in bark. Being a potential food source, I am not sure I would use a systemic fungicide on it, but if it is ornanental I could see using 3336 or a similiar product..depending on the identified attacker. Our maples are losing leaves now as well, and maples are faster than our oaks and pears and crepe myrtles. Not faster than our big cherry, which is already bare.
