I have a 2-3 gallon plastic container... approx. 6-8 inches deep. I bought two bulbs from Home Depot... the kind come in a little pouch with "moss-like" substance in it. It's been over a month since I started. One bulb put on a leave but it promptly died. The other shows no sign of life. I even went to PetCo (or Petsmart) and bought 5 more bulbs... no sign of life from them either. I keep the water clean. Added algae-control drops. Have added Miracle Grow a couple of times. Still nothing. What am I doing wrong?
The package of the food pellets that come with the plants I have bought says to feed them after they start growing. I remember mine taking a few weeks to actually show any growth. Do you have the entire plant covered with water? I know some directions say to make the move to deeper water slowly, over the course of a few days I think. But I didn't do that, I just stick them in the water depth where they would be living and let them grow.
Yes... I keep them covered in water. The directions for the bulbs said they were for water depths of 1-6 inches. Perfect, I thought, for my container which is about 7-8 inches deep. Maybe I just got some "duds"?
I think you may be giving them too much TLC cheryl. Just pop them in the water and leave them to themselves. Don't add anything except the recommended plant food and I'm sure, in a few weeks, you'll be rewarded with new growth. I presume your water container is getting enough sun to help the bulbs to grow. If not can it be moved to a sunnier spot?
They are getting plenty of sunlight. I thought maybe too much! Guess I just need a little more patience.
